Never eard of him either but enjoyed it oo. Is he scottish? Funny how i tend to like Irish folk music and Scottish but not English - all that restrained fol-do diddle -dee stuff just doesn't do it for me, not enough life in it!... but happy to be proved wrong Vern, hadn't spotted that, so will start to use it as the "musicy thingy"

Yeah I was a bit sweeping - more a generalisation, this pentangle song is beautiful. ... but not very recent? They must be few and far between the good ones!! I used to listen to Ralph Mctell and the amazing Incredible string band... but I do find a lot of it over restrained and lacking passion... only tonight i happened to catch Mark Radcliffe's folk show on R2 and yet again i was totally underwhelmed!

You and me both, Anne. I'm a funny bugger where "folk" music is concerned - long story...probably accounts for my dislike of certain types of folk music at times ... If it's got passion, soul and "oomph" then great, but there used to be a lot of mediocre stuff about - probably still is - but I think the folk, or "world music" scene as it was trendily classified at one time, has made some fantastic and interesting progress in musical style and ability the last couple of decades. Life: unfinished threads in a never-ending tapestry

Life: unfinished threads in a never-ending tapestry Well I am always happy to listen to new stuff Marie, so if you do come across anything you think stands out let me know. Though I am also not mad keen on the new stuff by bands like Mumford and son... i did love their first album but now find them very samey, great musicians but just don't have that fire... I saw them doing Glastonbury (on tv) and found them really disappointing, you kept thinking things were going to build up and the audience were ready to go wild and start leaping all over ... but then it woul die down again!!
