Took a trip to our local Ikea store in Gateshead yesterday. Don't normally bother with their restaurant, but they're currently doing a mean Chickpea Biryani for £1.25! It was well tasty! Just thought I'd mention it. Good place to stop off if you can't be bothered to cook and has the benefit of a lovely big car park for the campers Life: unfinished threads in a never-ending tapestry

Also, for those who don't know already (sorry if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs), if you get one of their free IKEA Family cards you can go in anytime and have as much free tea and coffee as you want.

lotusanne I seem to remember that they do a really cheap breakfast too if you are a family club member and also I think free internet.

I've never been a fan of their breakfasts though. Cold beans, anaemic bacon, rubber scrambled egg. Although very cheap, I'd rather not bother.
Might try the Biryani next time though.

I have to admit that I avoid IKEA like the plague. Been two or three times, didn't enjoy the visits and therefore didn't buy anything. I must be doing something wrong. I think it is something to do with being channeled and directed like cattle, it offends my sense of self determination.

Ah, but...! If you're a true wildcamper those things never bother you I never follow the herd, I go for specific things, know exactly what I want and take all the short cuts in the store. Bish bosh, in, out They do some pretty neat and useful stuff you can use in campervans, so it's been worth the effort, personally speaking. Life: unfinished threads in a never-ending tapestry

we go to ikea a fair bit, they put unwanted bits of contiboard outside which has proved very useful sometimes-lots of shelves ! bargain basement is pretty good and a great place for a bit of haggling. as for the food -tried the meatballs, awful !as for their hot dogs,i don't theoretically condemn plastic skins but god they were tough ! we sometimes have the chips, they're ok for 50p and they could actually be potato ,not sure !

I think depends when you go remember going at a weekend and being stuck in horrendous one way crowd system we got split up and liferallycouldnt join up again it was reAlly a worried experience . but they try to get you to do that ie walk through all the roomlayouts obviously want you to get inspired. but as Marie said just avoid that. go straight tothemarket hall tothemarket bits you want. they aregood andcheap for things like glasses rugs lamps kitchen ware storage stuff candlestick etc. my problem is alwAys not:- coming out with 50 bargains at £2 each!:-

ps sorry about worse then ever typing in train with phone Freestyle typing often enables the reader to enter a surreal world denied by use of normal grammatical construction.
