Radwell has to be the 24-27 as they close in November. I have a competition in Sussex on the Saturday. When I get double booked the events are Always in opposite directions! Grrrr

He was asking me how many vans will fit on half an acre and I told him 15-20. Hope that was right. Only 3m gaps, tut tut, Natural England would not be pleased and where's his exemption cert, LOL. Actually I think Phil still has one. It looks like an oblong field on the website photo. My first impression was that it looked quite small. That was for a venue in North Wales Vern possibly for next year. So natural England can sod off. lol

So natural England can sod off. lol Technically, you always need to be covered by an exemption certificate for a meet wherever you are, even on private land with the permission of the land owner. If it's only 1 unit for up to two nights it can be covered under exception to 1960 Caravan Site and Permitted Development Act etc. If not covered for more than 1 van then you will usually get away with it, but you run the risk if a local person complains to the council. Otherwise, without the certificate, the local land owner is contravening planning law, and may get a visit/warning from the local authority planning officer. Like as above, you will normally get away with it, but at the recent fixit meet at the Brown Cow, there was a complaint to the local authority, and the exemption certificate was not brandished, although Phil has one, as do we here at FMUK now. If you do have/use an exemption certificate then Natural England insist on a Rally coordinator, 6m between vans, and quite a few other rules such as dogs on leads and no noise at night etc etc.

Nothing wrong with saving a few quid Glen, already. Tie her up in the van and it's £4.50 a night! We will need to be bribed with fish curry and rum to keep quiet about it though

I can do both nights now as I'm not playing hockey anymore, the only thing is I sold my van so I hope nobody minds if I bring my tent! Back to basics again while I decide what to buy next, I don't want to rush in this time and need a daily vehicle that I can camp in (and is cheap to insure for business use - having issues!!)

Why??? I thought you loved it!!! Can recommend the autoslleeper Legend, couldn't be happier with it, LOADS more psace for me and Mia, and not much difference in size, fits in normal parking space, plastic one piece body that cant rot, and only joined at cab so that the only weak spot. Also comes standard with blinds/flyscreens/full cooker. heating/ boiler/ drinks cabinet!! PS I use it as daily vehicle too

Insurance on a non-converted van is double my car insurance so I can't justify that! I'm thinking I'll have to go for something smaller, something more of a weekend/day van and live without all the extra built in stuff! I get motorhome envy when I see other peoples vans at meets and then get carried away and buy something without thinking! lol I'm currently mulling over ideas!

I found obtaining business use insurance on a campervan was nigh on impossible although a few insurers will allow commuting to one fixed place of work.
For me, the way around this and obtaining the most versatile vehicle was to adapt my former Renault Kangoo. It was insured as a business vehicle, to include carriage of own goods, and the underwriters were happy for it to be fitted with lockers and a sink. It was purely coincidental that a Z-bed stretched out on the lockers formed a seat during the day and a bed at night, of course...
I used this arrangement for wildcamping for 7 years. The van was only basically fitted with bed, seating, sink, loo, 12v coolbox, portable battery pack, magnetic LED stick-on lights, fixed rear windows (not declared to insurer) and roof vent. I paid £175 fully comp with protected NCD and no mileage limits. Once you start talking about gas installations, cooking facility etc then insurers don't want to know but some will allow the fitting of an Eberspacher heater if you can plead a good case for it.

MotorhomeMike Did I miss anyone? Things to bring - Firewood, Halloween Decorations/costumes (optional), Sat night we'll probably do a communal buffet where everyone chips in what they want. Just put stuff on a camping table and dig in to communal feast! Some ideas from last year...

So I just phoned her and she says there is loads of space as they are slack. We'll probably go in the woods this time rather than the orchard where we were last year. We can have fire with the pit. If you have got any lights/pumpkins/ghosts etc to hang up between the trees in the wood that would be great Could probably do up to about 20 vans or more. It's the last weekend they are open this year. Arrive any time Thurs/Friday onwards. Edit: I will be there Friday night from about 18.00 and if anyone wants to come down Thursday night , say so I can pop over then as well. I'll have to go to work Friday but we can do walks through woods to pubs etc on Sat/Sun weather permitting!

Cool. I just had a message from Penny13 who was there tonight and she says poor old Mrs Penelope Meredith-Hardy forgot we were coming, but not to worry, I sent her an email, and there should be loads of space. I shall have to go firewood hunting tomorrow, I think we will need some! All bring some if you can get hold of it

As much as you can bring Brewkit Down here tonight with John, Penny13, and Flyby. Bit short of wood but luckily one of the guys who works on the site pointed our way to a big pile of branches they had been clearing so we used some of those to get a stockpile of wood for about 4 hours of fire. We had a good one going from 8 till 12. Just come in from that and still enough wood left to get another fire going. About an hours worth. So we are all set up. Firepit is in the corner of the Orchard sheltered by the brick walls. I'll leave that set up. Go to the Orchard on arrival and wagon wheel round the pit. Orchard is on the right/straight ahead as you come into the site. I cooked some caramelised pears on the campfire tonight. Delicious! All you need is a frying pan and bit of sugar, there are plenty of pears and apples around in the orchard on the ground and ready to drop off the trees which will just go to waste otherwise.

It rained last night Mike and I was fine setting off this morning in the Orchard. The weather may close in late Sunday but I think it will be just showers over the weekend.
I would park the driven wheels on levelling ramps or traction mats, if you have them, just to be on the safe side and avoid sinking if the rain is heavy, but it's OK at the moment.
(I'm sure we won't need them, but it is a working farm as well and they said they have tractors on site if we get stuck)

Penny's van is like that - she has a big overhang on a Chausson. My van has no overhang to speak of (Movano) but it's still not good on grass.
