Check out our Scotland convoy tour this year here: freemotorhominguk.boards.net/thread/1167/wild-camping-scotland-tour-updateBasically we stayed at 1. Green Welly Cafe car park (Near Clairnlarich) 2. Applecross Inn car park (via Fort William and the pass) 3. Sand Bay car park (Just North of Applecross) 4. Rubbah Reidh lighthouse car park (Noth of Melvaig) 5. Gruinard Bay car park (A832 right on the bay) 6. Ullapool campsite (£12 for 1 person low season) 7. Culag Woods car park (Near (south of) Lochinver) 8. Oldshormore car park (No overnight parking sign) 9. Droman Pier car park (Walk to Sandwood bay 10 miles round trip) 10. Balnakiel Bay car park (Near (west of) Durness) 11. Kyle of Tongue Causeway car park (Right on the causeway) 12. Thurso Quay car park (No overnight parking sign) 13. Pitlocherie car park (Near railway station, free on Sunday) Fine for a two week holiday. You can do Applecross to Thurso in two weeks so long as you keep moving a bit each day. Some of that tour is north of where you want to go, but your tour will work out well too. I think the best part of the coast starts north of Applecross Somewhere that we could have stayed was Sheildag free campsite (donation box) (north of Applecross) to explore Loch Torridon area but we didn't really have time. If you look at a map/Google maps you will find most of these easily but I can give coords or grid ref if you are stuck.

Great! Will you have internet on the way? ... it's bit dodgy but you can get in Fort William and Ullapool. Places like the Applecross Inn have Wifi. I think there was Three Mobile broadband in Lochinver.
One of the best view was coming over the coast road from Applecross to Sheildag with the vistas to Loch Torridon and the mountains beyond gradually opening up. When we went in May, the mountains were still covered in snow - it's magical scenery, probably the best views in the UK.
Do send us updates and photos if you have them!

If you visit the Cairngorms, a great place to stay is the Rothiemurchus site just outside Aviemore. It's a lovely little site with really nice showers and all the usual facilities. Plenty of wildlife and walks into the Lairig Ghru.

Also the Sango Sands site in Durness is really nice (North West coast). Lovely beach and visit the Smoo caves nearby if you go.

I have been wandering round Scotland for a couple of months now...really enjoying it. North of the great glen, wilding is pretty easy...it has been 7 weeks since I went on any kind of campsite (except one on Mull who charged £3.00 for services for people not staying...they were cool with wilders) Have fun

There are good walks at most of those locations above.
Inverkercaig falls just south of Lochinver is one we did. About 7 mile round trip.
Then there is Sandwood bay from Droman, about 10 miles round trip or you can get a bit closer at Balchrich/Blairmore.
Culag coummunity woods near Lochinver - 1 to 4 miles lots of graded walks.
Balnakeil Bay to the headland about 6 miles round trip.
Sand bay near Applecross or Applecross bay/woods.

I'll also point out the Nomad POI map www.nomadgb.co.uk/map.htmlYou can link above in the jump station above every page too. It has got lots of potential free rest stops (red beds) and walks (green men) and other features! If you take your laptop and can get free wifi in a pub, you can pull up this map too.

Water can found at:
57.335254,-4.480514 Drumnadrochit, Loch Ness, water behind the Tourist Information building
58.490868,-5.100237 Balcrick, NW Highlands, water available on rear of toilet block.
I am quite sure there are others, but when I am solo, I don't need to top up very often.
