This one was organised by another forum, but thought I would do a report here as we have some joint members
Just returned back from a great time at the above.
I met up with BillieBlue on the M5 at the Avonmouth services and we went down via the A361 to North Devon. This is a good road, straight, wide, and three lanes in many places; it has been upgraded to serve North Devon. It's about a two hour drive from Bristol on this road and the M5. We arrived about 8.30 pm on the Friday night.
We went in the marquee that Wildman had provided and listened to some great songs from Splitty. Later on had jam on the guitar with Wildman (Roger) and Flyboy. Flyboy also did some numbers earlier on. Very good! Marquee was nice and spacious. Drunk loads and had a great evening. Thanks to the couple at the end of the tent for the beer
Unfortunately many people seemed to be leaving the meet on Sat morn, having done their fix-its in the week, whereas we were the other way round, having just come for the weekend. On Sat we went into Ilfracombe. Thanks to Stonedaddy for the lift! Exchanged a gas bottle and got some water purifying tabs. In the evening we went to a local pub. Thanks to Penny13 for the lift there and back. The roads round the campsite were frequently used with fast moving traffic but no footpath so transport is helpful to go anywhere safely.
On Sunday decided it was time to fix something! So made BilieBlue some supports so she can make up a fast transverse single bed. We also fixed her gas bottle which had a bad leak from a very worn pipe. Luckily I had some spare pipe and Flyby/Stonedaddy did the fix. Had a look at OH's van which is very nice and he gave me some purifying tabs, and I passed on some new cutlery which Basildog had spare. Thanks to Basildog and Barry! Also thanks to BillieBlue for the beer, coffee, and SAS survival book!
Then I went into Ilfracombe again with OH, Penny13, Billieblue, Flyboy, and Stonedaddy. Thanks again to Penny13 for the lifts Penny was a star as was ferrying a lot of other people too which was really useful with the roads with no footpaths. In Ilfracombe we had some fish and chips, on the quay front, saw the sights, and then went to an award winning pub.
So departed about 10.00pm and I got back about home 4.00am. It's about a 4 1/2 hour drive but I took some breaks.
Campsite is great. We were in the CL part as we only stayed for a couple of nights for £7.00 a night. But rally field is huge. Site has toilet, wash basin, water tap, and chemical disposal (which is just a manhole cover). Thanks to Roger for setting up the Marquee and to the other people who helped organise the meet. Had a fantastic weekend, but it really is a little far for me for just the weekend. I'd want to go for four days or longer if I went again. But I have been to Torquay area probably over 10 times so it was nice to visit the North Devon coast for the first time
