Hi all took the plunge over the weekend and wild camped in penmon we were on our way to Benllech to the car boot which was on Saturday morning we had rung a site on Friday and was told they would ring me back on the mobile as they couldnt find the appointments book.We headed for Beaumaris for Friday morning and ended up at penmon still waiting for our phone call pulled in to a layby where there was a couple of motorhomes overlooking the sea.Jim was talking to the other motorhome owners who said they where staying there the night after saying we had not wild camped before the others said they had stayed there before and if we had any trouble to sound our horn.So thanks to there friendlyness we ended up staying and had a great time. The only down side was at 2 am in the morning a car passed and kept his hand on his car horn and woke us up.Left early on Saturday morning for the car boot and we were intending to come back if there were was room on the Saturday night only after using the leisure battery on the friday night there was no power and after running about all of Saturday the battery never charged up jim says there is a split relay and should of charged up it is a new battery so we found a site for Saturday night and it charged ok on the hook up.Can anyone suggest whats wrong. Ann +Jim

Glad to hear you had a good first time!
Your relay is probably not working, or maybe an inline fuse has blown on the charging line or a wire loose/disconnected, or maybe faulty leisure battery earth.
I would check the relay first though, measuring the voltages either side of the relay contacts with engine switched off and engine running. Also check in line fuse on charging line (if fitted).

It is a small box, usually black, usually about 30mm square cube. Common locations include engine compartment bulkheads, under dash, under seats, electroblock (continetal vans), near leisure battery or control panel.
If you have a fridge or a retracting step, there may two or three relays together.

Good for you for taking the plunge! Don't worry about the tooters. Although they are quite common, tis very unlikely they will cause you harm. It's a cowardly act committed from the safety of a moving vehicle and either out of jealousy or devilment, just a bit annoying I know.

When was the van last used ? Do you charge it at home before you leave ?

Well done for taking the plunge. I think we all get tooters occasionally...I have been out in the UK four months, this trip...I think I have had three of blighters.
My last van was a Bessecar...in mine, the fuse box and other stuff was below a false floor in the wardrobe. Just another place for you to try after exhausting Firefox's suggestions.

Well done on your first wild camp, I always carry a multimeter, fuses, as coupla yards of wire, tape, crimps, rec, I work on the footing if you got it you won't need it. this is a good excuse for digging about your van and learning

Glad you got your first night wilding under you belt, it does get easier I have a similar problem with my electrics too! I tried to post a photo of my split relay, but the file was too big. I'm putting a charge on my battery now to see what happens when I go away tomorrow. Good luck with yours!
