I went to sleep last night with a pile of washing on the bed next to my feet and it annoyed me all night! It brought back memories of Pre-duvet beds - does anyone else remember when you had 2 sheets, several blankets, a bedspread and a quilt on top - or some variation? It was all tucked in so tight you could hardly slide in, then at some point in the night it would all come apart, get bunched up and slide off. It wasnt too bad when the bed fairy used to make your bed but after a certain age you were expected to do it yourself - and that meant collapsing into bed to find no sign of the sheet and blankets all askew! And there was no central heating in those days so you needed to be tucked in really to keep warm. When the new fangled "Continental Quilts " came in (from Sweden??) there was a lt of debate over whether they would be warm enough/ stay on etc etc . Life is so easy now, bed making is just a quick shake, none of that straightening and tucking. I can't remember the last time i slept in abed with sheets and blankets!

I went from sheets/blankets at home to duvet at uni and that was 1982. Never looked back since. Does anyone still use blankets?

I made the change in 1975. The duvet lasted well - it toured Scotland last year and just yesterday ended its days at the dump! Its cover is still in my van and is testament to the days when M&S products were of a long-lasting quality.

I remember going to sleep under blankets with my little tranny (Transistor radio before you start!!!), listening to Radio Luxembourg. Anybody else remember the DJ's Mark Wesley, Paul Burnett, Kid Jensen, Emperor Rosko, Bob Stuart etc?

Haha, i was most interested in the tale of you going to bed with your little tranny Rob (you didn't hope to get away with that did you?!) I have fond memories of rdio luxembourg too, though not all those djs. Do you remember radio Caroline, pirate radio, the only dj i can remember was Tony Prince i tihnk? The reception was always rubbish wasn't it always fading in and out... but there wasn't much choice in those days if you wanted to listed to music, it was buy vinyl, watch TOTP/ Old Grey Whistle test etc.. or radio. So different thee days where you can bring up anything you want practically on youtube and not only hear it but see the artist performing it. WE are so lucky now!

Yeah Tony Prince went onto Luxembourg too. I had the most pathetic little earpiece in my radio and the poorest sound quality you've ever heard but it was great for me, I loved my music even as a young kid, my brothers and sisters couldn't understand it. I was the only one out of 5 kids to buy records, but they all used to borrow them for parties!
