Does anyone know of anyone who can fit solar panels not tooo far from West Yorks? Have bought one for van for £89 but just rang up for quote to have it ftted and it was £195!!! Wasn't epecting that. Plus they couldnt do it until June and I need it from end of next week. Local auto electrician cant do so any suggestions welcome, will also post on WC4MH

If all else fails I'll do it for you for free in a couple of weeks. Only slight problem is the roof of your van is quite high and will need a good ladder on the move though!

if you don't manage to get it done before, bring all the bit's to doodles do. i've fitted 2 before, vern's done a few, i'm sure it would get done before we got to lubricated. , and we'll only charge entertainment value.

Good suggestion... we may well be able to borrow a decent ladder from the pub! It's just a question of having the right angles and bits handy to get it on as the roof profile is quite curved at the back. If we go down this route, measure the roof curve and let us know the dims. A and B (below). <---Length of Panel---> ----------------------- .........Panel ^...........................^ |................C..........V V ........ ___---___ ____----...........----__ ..........Roof A............................B The above may be a bit cryptic but basically what is needed is a 1 inch clearance off the roof at the centre of the panel above the high point of the roof (at C), and then what are the dimensions A and B to give the size/height of the angles needed to mount the panel. Due to the roof curve and the gas chimney, the fitting is asymmetric and the dimensions A and B will be different. I may need to sketch it out as the above probably isn't very clear.

Thanks both for your very kind suggestion. Yes V, a little cryptic is more than correct - though think I kind of know what you mean. Will hopefully get it done before then though as dont want to take up valuable meet time with my van problems!

it wouldn't take long to do ( apart from the planning stage ), i've got various bits of ally angle at home, and stainless bolts/nuts/washers, i'm sure between us all we'd have enough bits/tools to do the job.

Thanks Brewkit and Basildog, i hope I can get it done before Doodles Do as going away striaght after for 2 weeks and having problems with battery not charging so hoping this will sort it, and would liek to know it was OK beforehand in case of issues...but if I cant I will take you up on your kind offers, that is if you can wrestle ladders from Mark!!

Basildog will be able to prop up your solar panel on steel beams and brickwork, and Mark will cover the whole thing in render just so it's a neat job!
