South Downs Way
The South Downs Way is one of 15 National Trails in England and Wales and was the first bridleway National Trail in England. It is also the only National Trail to lie entirely within a National Park.
Stretching from the ancient cathedral city of Winchester in the west, first capital of England, through to the white chalky cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head at Eastbourne in the east, almost all of its stunning 160 kilometre length is blissfully off-road.
Walking, cycling or horse riding along the South Downs Way offers the opportunity to experience some of the finest landscapes in Britain. The Trail can be enjoyed as one long distance journey or as a series of separate excursions.
Following the entire 160 kilometre route, you can enjoy exceptional views of the Isle of Wight and the Solent, the high heathlands of the Western Weald and Blackdown, the heavily wooded Weald of Sussex, the receding ridges of the Chalk Downs themselves as well as the distant ridge of the North Downs. At the eastern end of the trail you can enjoy the famous sea cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head.
The South Downs Way gives you the opportunity to see some of the finest historical sites including the great iron age hill forts of Old Winchester Hill, Chanctonbury Ring or Devils Dyke. There are numerous ancient burial sites and cross dykes as well as more recent sites such as Uppark House or WWII defensive sites.
For nature lovers, the South Downs Way passes through an extraordinary range of diverse habitats from ancient woodlands, river valleys, chalk grassland to mixed farm land and coastal habitats.

A SELF SUFFICIENT MEET
August 5th - August 12th 2013
The Fox and Goose is a family run pub set in the heart of the tranquil village of Greywell, Hampshire. This superb example of a 16th century Inn is located just a few miles from exit 5 of the M3 between Hook and Odiham. The pub is an ideal place to meet for lunch, dinner or even just drinks, we also offer camping on our grounds.
This quaint English country pub has a relaxed atmosphere. Its experienced staff will ensure you are well looked after during your visit. There is an excellent choice of Real Ales, Branded Beers, Spirits and a good selection of Wines to accompany a superb menu.
The pub cuisine is mostly traditional English fayre with the emphasis very much on home-made dishes. We try to make our dishes from local produce and 'Game' when in season. There are 'Daily Special's on offer at the pub and Sundays are aimed at the classic “Roast Dinner", which changes from week to week.
Children are welcome at the pub all year round and there is ample room for them to play in the garden. We also welcome dogs as why should man's best friend be left at home when everyone else is out enjoying themselves
Camping with us is free! All we ask is that you use our pub/restaurant for a drink, or a spot of hot or cold food.
There is a field at the back of our pub ideal for tents, caravans or motor-homes, we have space for around 30 pitches and are open all year round.
There is an outside toilet, hand wash basin, and an outside fresh water supply, but no electric supply, so short-term, weekend, or overnight stays would suits our camp site more, but longer stays are welcome.
Paol is in touch with the landlord of the Fox and Goose and will confirm the venue this evening [Sat]
There is a 5 pounds Admin charge ( per Unit ) to cover the expense of all the printing, phone calls etc, etc. If you do want to be part of this one you must send your small Admin charge to either me or Fred before you can be added to the 'confirmed' list. We will, PM you with address to send it. PO ,cheque or cash only!
As you know, this Fest is my birthday celebration and is a CoC event including any other camping forums who wish to take part. Fred works hard with all the bits and pieces that are needed and last Fest, he had spent a small fortune on banners, magnetic signs and printing etc. The 14 units that did not turn up without the slightest notification, cost us dearly.
The reason for the change in venue is due to the New Forest Council not allowing us to use the usual field for our Fest and we would have had to use the back field behind the trees. Too far from the loos and water supply and not being flat enough to accommodate many units. The new venue is ideal and I am told the pub is great!
We are ready to take serious bookings as from now, so those of you who would like this free event, best not waste too much time in booking up!!
We look forward to hearing from you!!
This meet is still in the Ideas section and you are invited to show your intrest here.
CONFIRMATIONS will be required from June 1st 2013
