I think it may be a good idea to have a meet fairly soon in a central location. Just somewhere we can sit and chew the fat and discuss the new forum.

Like Rob, I'd suggest somewhere central...
Overseal, Ragley Boat Stop, Farndon, Newark, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, South Derbyshire A1/M1 corridor

Would simply depend on if we have the kids or not that weekend for us.

The Rutland Water venue was really good - and only £6 per night.

Rutland water sounds fine by me. I really wanted to go to the recent one, but just couldn't make it due to another commitment.

Unfortunately the Pub is a good walk (about a mile and a half I believe). We just took our own beer last time and sat around the fire, it's a huge field overlooking the lake, with Elsan disposal and water but no EHU or showers.

I reckon give it a couple of days whilst the site is establishing, and then discuss venues/dates?

Any chance of coming a bit further north? Sheffield-ish maybe? Wouldn't have thought so, but might as well ask anyway.

I think after the weekend Marie, there will be more new members and more people posting. We can get a bit more input then and decide on a venue.

This could be our first poll Where is Rutland Water Rob? Hi Andrea/Andy It is close to Oakham in Rutland which borders wth Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire. Not far from the main A1. It is a huge man made resevoir, you can cycle round it (about 20 miles). A very nice place.

If it's the nature reserve I've just found it - looks lovely but a bit too far for us

You can throw as many venues in as you like but you won't be able to please everybody. Bruddy fuel prices have seen to that. Like a lot of people I can't afford to wander anymore than 100 miles from my front door and not many times either.
Just sayin'

Rutland Water is pretty good in central terms with good communication off the A1 but it will be too far for some.

It looks a perfect spot but 260-300 miles is too expensive for a weekend trip, particularly at this time of year when the days are so short. Perhaps in the spring/summer when the days are longer and more opportunity to enjoy the scenery and countryside?

We may have a Mini meet there sometime I guess. It's actually only 90 miles from Ross as the crow flies though the cross country journey may be tricky.
Also within 100 miles of London, York, Liverpool, Bristol, Norwich, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, so surprisingly central.

But too far from Cumbria, especially with unresolved "issues" on the dashboard of the BWV :-( I'm up for a Northern Northerners' First meet somewhere in Cumbria, Lancashire, N Yorks, Durham, Northumberland if anyone else is. We could praps Skype the other first meets if we all meet the same time. Any dates being thrown into the pot?

I'm going to be wilding at Helwith Bridge and possibly Ribblehead 30/31/1/2 Dec/Jan 2012/2013. Before that it's Basildog's hand fastening on 29 Dec at Avebury. I think LotusAnne and possibly Carol coming too. Anyone welcome to join us. Hope the weather is better than last year!
