I'm upgrading from my single berth Berlingo to something a bit bigger and been pondering for some while what direction to take.
I've toyed with buying a ready converted vehicle but haven't really found one that suits.
I've pondered a demountable to go on the back of a pickup.
I've thought about buying an empty van and getting it fitted out to my spec but was nervous about spending pots of cash.
However, I stopped off at a secondhand van dealer just south of Kidderminster. Lots of Transits, Crafters, Boxers etc as you'd imagine the vast majority in white.
In amongst them is a medium wheelbase, high top VW Crafter, about two and a half years old and about 60,000 on the clock on a 14 plate in dark blue for which I've paid £12,600 inc VAT. It's high mileage, but it drives OK and I won't be doing a great deal in it so by the time I come to sell it, it'll be low mileage.
I now have to decide who is going to fit it out for me.
The one thing I really, really like about it? It's not white!
I'm pondering the idea of a diesel cooker in it for two reasons; 1) diesel is more readily available than LPG and it's easier to fill with one fuel than two and 2) there's less fuss than with gas re piping etc.
I'm also considering diesel powered engine coolant, living space and water heaters.
Does anyone here use such kit and what are your experiences for good or bad please?
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Does anyone know if it's possible to fit a second fuel tank under a VW Crafter MWB or if there is a long range tank available?
Thanks in advance.
