Last Friday August the 5th Carol came down to have a couple of jobs done on her van. When we had done them we took the dog a walk while Jose made some dinner. By chance we visited Irlam Locks that is about a 15 minute walk from my house. What we did not expect to see was a ship coming into the locks because the new hydraulic lift road suspension bridge next to the M60 flyover had collapsed just 3 weeks before it was due to be opened. This then blocked the Manchester Ship Canal completely and no ships could get past either way. This meant goods going to Trafford park and Salford all had to be shipped by road. Unfortunately one ship was trapped on the Salford side of the blockage and had to stay in dock for the three months it took to move the collapsed new high level hydraulic bridge. I should imagine the ships owners would be paid a very large compensation for the time holed up. I bet the crew will be glad to escape our summer at last, has one of them said it was heading for Spain but did not say which port. I took a few photos for anybody interested in it. Sorry it says the forum has exceeded its attachment limit, so could not put any photos up. Vern action needed. .... Tom ....
