Vern update, phoned him this morning and he seemed quite well. He has a small pipe incerted in his arm that runs up his vein and finishes close to his heart. This is not painful and allows them to insert drugs straight into him. His main concern at the moment is another CT scan. Vern thinks he is having to many doses of radiation over a short period which can do more harm than good. He can do home excursions on the bus if need be, but he does have to be back on his ward for evenings. This can only happen on the none treatment days. If every thing is going OK at home I hope to visit him from Hereford tomorrow then either stop the night somewhere or maybe carry on home if not to tired. So should have more to report later in the week. .... Tom ....

Spoke to him today on Skype, very unexpectedly so didn't have time to tidy the house but Vernon could see some flowers in a vase behind me and mistook it as a normally tidy house so got away with it, phew! Anne arrived for her visit as we were speaking so I'm sure she'll give an update soon.

Thanks for the call Carol! Your house looks immaculate with the pictures and the flowers. Hope you liked the hospital cell! Thanks the also for the visit lotusanne and Martin. I had the salmon for tea. It was great - superfoods with sweet potato, tomatoes, broccoli, onions, giant cous cous (?), sweet corn and coriander. Just the sort of food I should be eating, if I'd had that in hospital on a regular basis, I'd have been better weeks ago. And also the chocolate with no sugar, and 100% cocoa - interesting taste but very palatable and apparently the cocoa is also one of those flavenoid superfoods. Anyway, had that and the salmon for tea, along with some diet coke and fruit for supper. Blood glucose, blood pressure, and pulse all normal this morning.

Great to see you vern and glad you enjoyed the food. For all your friends .. Vern looked much better than I expected to my relief , and he has lost loads of weight which is good for the diabetes and just about everything else I would imagine. He seems to be coping well with his confinement - about 6 weeks now I think, but no definite release date yet, after all this effort to fight the infections I think he knows he has to wait for the all clear. I think the infection levels in his blood are going back down again , but he will need to travel to the hospital every day after release gir antibiotic injections which is a right pain and makes planning trips difficult . Hope you continue to improve Vern , sorry my account is not as detailed as Toms have been but if he goes today we may get another update soon

Well more good news, there is a new team on the ward, and they seem much more positive about release, which I am hoping may come tomorrow or Thursday.
Blood test figures CRP are down to about 30. Should be less than 10 but they were over 440 when I came in, so I still have a bit of infection being mopped up, but all indications are it is receding and am on the triple barrel of antibiotics still.
The district nurse will have to come round once a day and give me IV Ticcopleinin, but other than that, not much to keep me in here really.
Only 79kg now so not much to lose until target weight of 70-75kg which should help with many things. I think the real secret to weight loss has been not drinking alcohol which was probably 500 calories a day empty calories. It doesn't seem much but that's 3500 calories over a week which is an extra pound of fat per week. And alcohol is like rocket fuel for the body. It doesn't need much conversion into glucose so gets used first and excess food can get laid down as fat.

That's great news Vern looks like you may soon be set free, well not altogether with your visits from a district nurse but being at home has got to be better than hospital even if you have had a steady flow of visitors. Look forward to seeing the new slim Vern.

Well if Vern's out today he will be out faster than I got home. I went to visit him from the Hereford meet and took him a months supply of nibbles. He then told me he hopes to be out in two or three days time. Well if hes out today that is faster still. We arranged to meet in the hospital cafe but it was closed. So off we went up the tower block and had a coffee in his wards TV room. After that we walked down to the pub where I was parked. We ordered a meal each and I had a few beers. Vern had tomato Juice and Worcester sauce followed by a tonic water chaser. It was quiz night but we failed on most questions so concentrated on our meal instead. At the end of the night Vern ordered a taxi but I think he sent it to the wrong pub because when he left he dashed down the road to the next door pub and got in it there. Well everything is looking good has he said he is now going to book for Orkney has he thinks he will be ready now. I must say he sure has lost some weight. He went in looking like a chubby Labrador, but came out last night looking like a gypsies dog all d--k & ribs. I got the barmaid to take a couple of photos of us and I must say it looks like I am the one thats just spent six weeks inside while Vern looks like a million dollars. I will put them on now so you can see how good he looks. .... Tom .... uploading pictures
