Just came across this whilst looking for wild camping places in Wales. I completed my Mercedes vario conversion last year and enjoying taking the family away for lots of fun. I notice there's some familiar people on here from the self builders forum.

Welcome, first post!
Yes, I think the people who do forums tend to do a lot of them!
There's even more groups on facebook now all clamouring for members and advertising themselves... so a lot of competition.
Whereabouts in Wales are you looking for?

Not sure. I'll head in at Gloucester to avoid the bridge costs and return on it as its free back to England. I'd like to explore the centre of Wales add I've never been there. We will probably end up in the Brecons but I'm reading that they are not so kind to wild camping there.... Pity.

The Brecon Beacons area is one of the easiest areas for wilding and overnight parking is allowed in several of the council car parks, free of charge. Just avoid places like Ystradfellte where you are more likely to get a knock and be moved on by a ranger in the middle of the night. There are lots of easier alternative places to choose from. I used to visit weekly between September-June.

Usk Reservoir in the dam car park is quite nice. Walk round the reservoir is good. So long as you just stay a night or two I think it will be OK.
You may see a water authority van, but they are more interested in catching people fishing without licenses!

Providing you're quiet and respectful towards others, especially the fishermen, you should have an uninterrupted, peaceful night.

That's good to know thanks. We only stop overnight to be honest and try not to be noticed. But that's hard to do when you're in a big yellow bus! We got moved on once in Germany. Not a nice guy. Just know how arrogant people can be sometimes when 'asking' you to move on. Would rather avoid places where they clamp down on it. I'll avoid the main areas then. Probably would have tried Ystradfellte as we love it there.
