Could you point me in the direction of the study/survey where this 9/10 figure was obtained?
I am finding it difficult to believe the 90% figure at the moment, but if you could give me the times and dates and number of observations in the study, maybe link to the study results on the internet, it would give me some confidence in your figure.
Dear Sir, Do you always believe everything you read in the papers? They are after all out to sell their papers so the more inflamatory they can make an artical the better. I have no idea what the reporters have said in their papers. I said that like dogs owners the few ruin it for the majority. That 9 out of 10 times its fine but the minority ruin it for the majority. Having said that, we do not have enough parking in the town as it is so I would object to more spaces being made available for motorhomes when car spaces are desparately needed and coaches carry up to 50 tourist at a time which are benificial to the town centre and other traders. As to what they do in France and other countries, when we went to France in our motorhome we always paid pitch fees in the camp sites and had a whale of a time. We have in this area some superb camp site both national chains and indipendant and I fail to see why you cannot use them. They employ local people and pay local rates and contrabute to the towns economy. As to my solution being to charge on the sea front nothing counld be further from my mind. As I have said you should use the fabulous camp site facilities availble in the area.
Kindest regards, Louise Parkin
Thanks for you prompt response.
What you are saying is that you were misquoted.
You were quoted as saying "'When they do park there overnight, nine times out of 10 they empty their rubbish and their effluence afterwards"
Whereas you actually said "like dogs owners the few ruin it for the majority. That 9 out of 10 times its fine but the minority ruin it for the majority"
Almost the exact opposite!!
Clearly, the misquote is making you look silly and defaming your character as a councillor. It amounts to libel. If I were you I would contact the publication /website and ask them to correct their error.
Thank you for clarifying the matter.
So what does everyone think... what did she actually say. Seems somewhat fishy!
How many spelling and grammar mistakes can one find in her reply?!
I know some people have dyslexia, but there are spell checkers which underline in red. Words like "artical" do not exist and there is only one choice to correct, so anyone could pick those up. It shows a lack of care or responsibility for what she says or writes. Not what one would want to see from a councillor.
She's being slightly more reasonable and articulate in this one. (She still can't spell article, or supposed, or across, or waste, or all sorts, or overall, or cheaper, or increase among others !)
Hi, Ive just remembered my handle and password from years ago so would like to answer some of these comments. The newspaper artical that the comments were taken from is wrong and I shall be having words with the editor. In fairness I was warned about this particular reporter but thought wrongly that he couldnt be that bad and that if I was articulate enough he would understand what I was saying and report it as such. I said; 1)can we look into using the Tuckers Garage site for parking. 2)motorhomes are not suposed to park overnight on the esplanade but they do and I have seen many emptying their rubbish and waist on the lawns. I did not say 9-10 do so. We have many wonderful camp sites in the area that employ local people why cant they use them but they prefer to park on the Esplanade for free. I have had residents from other areas like Grove Road who have come into the Pavilion to say that motorhomes are parking there overnight too and leaving alsorts when they go so its not just my imagination. Sorry Sam but I dont have time in the summer to stop and take details and photos when I come accross offenders as I'm always working. 3)since I was one of the people who campaigned for free parking on the esplanade in the evenings to help the B&B's and eateries I certainly did not suggest that we should start charging. 4) I did ask if SDC would allow the first 1/2 hour or 1 hour to be free in the Pier Street car park to help the traders in the town centre who have suffered since Morrisons closure. This was raised at a resent Chamber of Trade meeting. 5)I did not suggest that the Pier Street car park fees should not go up this year (which would have been a possible conflict of interest) but I did say that the proposed overal 10% increace would be acceptable ( as did several other councillors from various parties)if it was needed but that under no circumstances would I condone anything more that a 10% increase in the Bank Street Car Park in Highbridge as that car park is cheeper that Pier Street and for good reason.
So since I didnt mention the Pier Street car park fees other than as part of the overal statergy I didnt need to declare an interest as has been snidely suggested by certain forum members. Generally I ring the town clerk (who will confirm) before most town council meetings to double check whether I need to declare an interest. In fact the town clerk is under the impression that I have been declaring an interest where I dont need to. I do declare an interest with Apex Park because many of Borne Leisure's campers use the Pavilion therfor although it cant be quantified I declare an interest. The council asked for 2 councillors (I am not one of them)to go on the BEST team to watch over what went on and report back. They are there for the council and so do not have to declare an interest (verified by the town clerk) when dealing with BEST ventures.
I represented Burnham Pavilion, Sunspot Amusements, The Front Parlor, Bayview Cafe, Fortes Cafe, The 99p Shop, The Galley, Superchips & the S&D when I spoke out against the Esplanade road closure as that is the coach route into Burnham and shutting it would be detremental to businesses. Since it has now been relocated to the end of the Esplanade coaches will still be able to visit the town. Thank you Louise Parkin
