Hello crew. You lot don't really know me, i'm aware of that, but i figured i'd touch base here tonight because it's the first time i've had a net connection for 3 weeks. I've been off grid since the 10th of November, touring in the bad weather but it hasn't dampened my spirits too much so far & i've been in a different place every night....& so far not paid a single fee ! Oh yes I started in north wales, Anglesey. Headed south through wales to the far south western corner, pembrokeshire. Then i headed east, did the black mountains & brecon, slid acroos to the forrest of dean & then into England. Went via cheddar gorge & then did exmoor, followed the coast down to lands end, went down the lizzard & to St Mawes. I headed up to bodmin moor & then dartmoor, the new forrest & then went north...... & now i'm in oxfordshire visiting family, an excuse to get online. I've had a mad-good time & havn't had any real negative issues other than a few minor gripes & the persistent rain or wind. I'm no stranger to a bit of touring in a vehicle but this is a different venture now, my first proper camper van & i'm getting through the teething stages now, personalising it & pimping it to my tastes. It started pricey but the spending is now subsiding (i'm pleased to report) Anyway, i'm here now with a net connection for a night or two so i figured i'd share my experience, it's all good. I'll try & dip back into this thread again, see if there any other budding boondockers aboot If there are any planned meets i'd be interested, might be able to make one perhaps. Peace everybody.

Great post, thanks. Have you said what kind of van you're in? Sounds like a self build? So, what do you do when travelling on your own? Read? Work? Go to the pub? I'm always interested what solo travellers do as I've done a little bit but end up feeling a bit too alone! When are you off again?

Great post, thanks. Have you said what kind of van you're in? Sounds like a self build? So, what do you do when travelling on your own? Read? Work? Go to the pub? I'm always interested what solo travellers do as I've done a little bit but end up feeling a bit too alone! When are you off again? Hi. No, not a self build. It's a renault trafic & an original camper from first registration. I picked it up in october (an ebay outing) & it's a nice clean van with a pretty standard internal format. It's been well cared for , a 2002 model, no high top either. It just needed tweaking to my preferences, various bits & pieces. As for what i do, i've been getting aquainted with national parks, going for walks & taking some video footage (Might be a youtube outing to come) . I like megalithic stuff too, visiting stone circles & burial chambers but i also get swayed by anything that takes my fancy. I would read in the evenings but i'm a fussy bugger about books & still waiting to find some that leap out at me, gonna check some charity shops tomorrow. I get up early, before light, & by the time my day is done & i've had dinner then i'm genuinely tired & i've been getting early nights. I've been up since 3:30 today as it goes. Seems there's always something to do though....especially keeping everything organized. That's one of the cool things, i have a system for my needs & it works consistently. The down side ? Well, few people want to have a conversation & i have had just 1 notable chat in 3 weeks, a nice fella who was a white water kayaker at dartmoor, he was happy to relax & take some time for a chin-wag. Apart from that it's like being a desperado-wanna talk-but nobody to talk to-kinda dude ! It's winter & i'm not seeing too many other vanners except for those i pass on the road while travelling. It's ok though, i like being out of it all Next i will be heading north but not as far as Scotland for now. Gonna spend a couple of nights where i am, catch up on some necessities & do some minor prep' for my onward jaunt. So yup, i'm just enjoying the variety of places.

I bought a webasto diesel heater from 'butlertechnik' . Had a mechanic friend to fit it while i helped. It was a spend that i would rather have avoided but now it's in there, well i'm pleased i did it. Nights are toasty, works like a charm. Thanks for asking.
