I have had a nasty chest infection for over 2 weeks and decides to start eating raw garlic to boost my immune system. I think it is really helping BUT i find it really hard to chew a clove. I have tried it on its own, and also with some slices of apple as thought the crunchy apple yumminess might mask the crunchy garlic stench - but it doesn't!!! Any suggestions very welcome!!

I had a student years ago who used to come into the classroom after chewing on a clove of garlic and boy did it pong! Hope your friends are honest with you!

Great suggestions, thanks, will try them all, garlic and banana??? cant quite imagine it but must better than chewing raw with apple - and I love garlic, but it was making me gag!! Someone else said mashed with honey??!!
Supposed to have it first thing on its own but unless I can find a new technique its not going to happen.
Yes Carol, it is very smelly, and you can taste it for ages, no kisses for me I guess!! I wonder if the seed mix stuff you get in Indian restaurants would help?

I suggest you forget the smelly garlic Anne. Get a tub of Vic for your problem chest. Then have fun getting someone to rub it in for you. Thats a winner all ends up has you have fun and a cure all in one go .. Well I should imagine you will be run off your feet with volunteers, so get ready to go pick some garlic for a break . .... Tom ....

Does it loose its properties if pickled or cooked?
I was thinking with steak onions, mushrooms, herbs and horseradish. Could maybe sprinkle fresh chopped garlic on the cooked stuff. Lots of other flavours to mask it.
I also remember seeing a programme some years back where a restaurant served everything with garlic. They even had garlic ice cream! Quite easy to make. Just fold the crushed/chopped cloves into softish ice cream and refreeze. Could also add fresh lemon, chopped hazelnuts or chopped pistachios.

That sounds bizarre Vern, hard to believe it could be nice! Prob better raw - heat/ processing often destroy nutrients though don't know specifically about garlic. And allegedly best first thing on a empty stomach! Tom, yes sounds like fun!! Just off to buy some!!
