An interesting but worrying article by Cameron McNeish has just appeared on the Walk Highlands site. Thanks to the mess left behind by the inevitable irresponsible few, it now looks as if the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park will succeed in banning wild camping within the national park - and that could set a precedent for other parts of Scotland...grrrr!!! Hopefully this won't spread. I think Loch Lomond is very badly affected because it is not far for the neds from Glasgow to go for a weekend and litter everywhere.

We have just spent 3 weeks wild camping in Scotland with no problem. We did pull into a lay-by next to Loch Lomond for lunch to discover 4 caravans well and truly parked - generators, awning, table & chairs as well as obvious fires. Lee got chatting and they were from Glasgow and go there for weekends fishing, but not sure if their caravans stay there all the time.

Just to clear this up for u vern, not everyone from Glasgow is a ned, & the litter louts yr referring to mostly come from Renton , Alexandria & balloch & it's not a good place to spend the night in a van as they think yr gypsy chingching

Yes, have been to Glasgow a few times and realise some parts are quite nice. It's like London, good areas and not so good. There are quite a few neds there though, and quite a few chavs in London!
Problem I saw when they banned wild camping on East side of Loch Lomond last time, was people coming up for the weekend and leaving burnt out cars, tents, old BBQ's etc. A bit like they do at festivals, just come for the weekend and dump everything, including piles of Tennants lager cans!
