Well I got the Rimor home from Wakefield with no problems on Tuesday. On the Thursday the bugs started to set in. First I always move it a few feet in the mornings to get out from the kerb to work on it. Wednesday was fault free .. Thursday first fault I noticed was the reversing camera had stopped working. Then the TV Ariel booster box had stopped working. Then I noticed while trying to sort these faults out noticed the solar charger was not working. All this stuff comes through a digital controller, so went into it a bit more. It then started to dump the water out of the boiler. I thought I had bought something that would be free of work for a bit, but wrong again. I managed to get everything working bar the reversing camera which I have still to look at. This morning I came to move it again and the bloody ABS and brake warning light came on and didn't go off when the engine was running. I checked the usual stuff like brake fluid levels brake pad wires, all to no avail. I have now booked it in to get it plugged onto a computer and hope he can sort it out fast. We leave for France on Friday and I bought this to make sure we made it to the sailing on time rather than chance not getting the other one done. It looks OK and Jose likes it (bonus) but she ain't mending it. The outside lower body panels are so flimsy its a wonder they don't break off in the wind. I think we all know that the cupboards are made of some light plastic stuff and a fair movement from the older vans. Now every day is a race against time to get the damn thing ready for Friday and hope nowt else goes wrong with it .. I will put a few photos on for those curious to know what its looks like. .... Tom .... uploading pictures

Yeah right Nige, I know ABS is a number of valves that operate via computer to stop wheels locking up but I am not sure how a fault can affect it. The hand book says pull over and stop has soon as possible and get expert attention immediately. I've got over 300 miles just to Dover and don't want to spend me holiday on the hard shoulder of the M 40. But then again if enough WC and FMUK members pass we could all stop and turn it into a meet. Just a thought. .... Tom ....

Looks nice externally. You have got the model with the more bulbous dormer.
Is that a raised bed at the back... can Rocko make it up there!?

It looks OK but it would be better if everything was working. The beds at the back are bunk beds, they are the main reason I got this model. Jose can have the bottom one. Rocco can sleep underneath on the spare wheel carrier. The guy has had it since new and its been parked up in an outside compound most of its life. Just have to see how it goes tomorrow. .... That’s got me wondering who would play the main role ......hmmm?

Well the saga goes on. Took it in this morning and he plugged the diagnostic computer in and it would not even register the van was connected to it. He reckons that there must be a fuse gone or a wiring fault. He could not look at it this morning has he was pulled out but says he will get stuck in tomorrow morning. I took it home and started loading it up ready for Friday. Unless the van refuses to start or move we will be leaving no matter what the problems are. Has Billyblue pointed out looks like Toms going on a Cruise. .... Tom ....

Who needs ABS anyway that's for drivers who were not taught how to cadence brake, mad army driving instructor and snow usually required

But would you set off on a long journey abroad, in new van with wife on board and warning lights on ?

Well took it in this morning and 4 hours later got phone call to pick it up. They could not get the diagnostic computer to recognize the van, but to come and pick it up has they had done it. They traced out the faults the old way of trail and error. Everything was working including the reversing camera that was also problematic. They had changed a switch ( the reversing light one on the gearbox I think ) a new bulb and new fuse and a couple of other bits and pieces. This then cured the ABS warning light and the Brake warning lights. Even though its all OK at the moment I don't feel that confident it will last, has it was all OK when I picked it up the other day. Well thats all can be done at the moment so come Friday we off to Dover to link up with Jenny P, John P. and Carol. We are meeting at a pub quiet close to the port and stopping the night there. So come Saturday should wake up with my first hangover in the new van. We sail just after 12: noon, so lets hope all our troubles are little ones. .... Tom ....
