There are converters I know, but I'm really asking what measure people relate to, of the cuff, when describing their vehicle, litres and km, or miles per gallon.

probably depends on their age- i still say ''inch by inch ,i'm getting there '' ---'' my kid's miles better than yours '' i do however use a bi-lingual tape measure and use the measurement that's easiest to read . i really like the idea of the metric system, and how kilos, litres and centimetres all relate to each other, but have no idea how many k my van does to a litre

MPG but I don't really calculate it as if I am driving from A to B it will use what it uses. I did just over 1100 miles on £210 worth of diesel but I did rive the ass out of the van doing 90 to catch up with Tom & Sue on the M74 after an unscheduled stop not sure if that is good or not.

Does it really matter? All I know is that fill up time comes round too quickly for my liking. Although it's nice that the cost of a full fill up has dropped by nearly £20 in the past few months, makes a pleasant change.
I usually do between 400 and 450 miles to a full tank. No idea what size tank it is (2002 Mark 7 Transit).
If you're really interested in an answer, I'll let you do the maths.

The original question was prompted by a friend on Facebook who bought petrol in litres and insisted that everyone thought in litres now, so they would want to know fuel consumption in miles per litre.
I wasn't convinced because I had gut feeling that UK people still think in terms of mpg.
So, fascinating as they are, I'm not really interested in your actual fuel consumptions, but more on whether UK people are thinking in miles per gallon or have made the switch from gallons to litres in their minds.

Neither, cos either way the maths baffles me. I work on the 425 miles per full tank principle - more miles per full tank is good news, less miles means I've either got too much weight in the van, or been driving above 55mph or else its been flipping cold and not sunny so I've been running the engine to warm the van and charge the leisure battery.
Simples, and no need for any maths. I even get confused as to how many pints / litres are in a milk carton - not the tiny one, I know that's a pint roughly, the next one is about a litre and the big massive one is 6 pints, but I have to look at the label for the one that's in between a litre and 6 pints.

Even though I was brought up with the metric system at school, I worked everyday after school and weekends using feet /inches so I Still work in feet / inches etc I find it easier therefore mpg for me although I havn,t got a clue what the truck actually consumes (probably best not to)

Miles per gallon. I still think in feet and inches, yards and miles, pints and quarts, pounds and ounces etc. That's what I learnt at school; they touched briefly on metric but I can never get my head round which is which because it's all tens with similar names and I muddle them up.
I sold a book on e-bay a couple of years ago. It cost me more to post than I'd been paid for the item plus postage because I'd muddled up grammes and kilogrammes (Or some other sort of grammes) and not charged enough postage. If it had been pounds and ounces I wouldn't have made that mistake. I can picture what a pound of something will look like but haven't a clue what a gramme would be. Ditto miles and kilometres, pints and litres etc.
