I agree tried the bio stuff a couple of times but all ways returned to the Blue, I use the 4 litre bottles of Elsan Blue which I have found pretty effective, and you can get away with using about half the amount they suggest.

We use liquid bio, it took a few changes to eliminate all the blue stuff so stunk a bit but once that had happened no problem!

Whilst on the subject of bogs, has anyone got a way of cleaning them inside, (thetford cassete type) I'm sure someone mentioned putting a dishwasher or washing mchn tablet in with water and taking it for a ride to splosh it in all the corners ugh. Any other sugestions will be welcome. Happy dumping.

I use bio tabs or liquid, doesn't smell any worse than it did when I used blue stuff. The colour is a bit off-putting when you empty it though.
Had to clean mine out well so a seal could be replaced when it went in for service recently - because I use the bio stuff all it took was about 4 good rinse outs with warm water.

Don't use anything! Just bung in a handful of green matter after each time you empty and rinse and your bog will start to act like a septic tank. Takes a little time but has the best aroma of all.....Sweet!

Wash ot out with a pressure washer but ware safety glasses it splashes a lot . WHAT There are very delicate parts inside a cassette and I have read that when rinsing do not over exert the swilling movement has they are easily damaged. I can stand to be corrected if wrong though. .... Tom ....

Yes there are such as a float etc so pressure washer not a good plan and it would not clean all of it that would be much better with some bleach or descaler ?

White vinegar - cheap as chips!!! Interesting tip! I would have thought a strong alkali would have worked as well eg Bleach or baking soda (Idea being to neutralise uric acid and turn it into water)

bleach is a no no in these toilets, apparently makes the plastic brittle and destroy's the rubber seals, agree with the vinegar though Truma used to recommend this for descaling their boilers, I think Bicarbonate of soda solution is another option for the cassettes.

I can see the reason behind vinegar for attacking limescale as that is an acid attacking/neutralising an alkali (calcium carbonate). For me vinegar is counter-intuitive against a fellow acid though - must be some other reaction at work!

Why not try a bottle of coca cola to clean the cassette, it works on waste water tanks.
We have never used any additives cos I hate the sickly cloying smell of the stuff. If you keep the pee input down to a minimum you reduce the natural pong and the vent is only open for a few seconds when you flush, so no worse than a good fart really.

Stop sticking your head down the bog and sniffing when I had a shower last week it didn't smell, and they all smell when you empty them whatever you use except mine of course, mine smells of peony roses wonderful.

I don't use anything in mine. I can't smell it unless I empty it especially in Autumn/Winter/Spring. It's all down to personal sensitivity really - I think my constitution is built for living in small spaces, which I count as a blessing, as I don't need a big van or a big house - and that all works out cheaper
