Are flexible panels better than not flexible and if so why, and are they worth paying extra for?

The performance is similar, but flexible ones are more expensive. The advantages being: - Easy to stick down on curved roofs (one way curve only!)
- No brackets etc required, just glue/sikaflex
- Don't upstand from roof, therefore nothing to catch on trees
- Improved aerodynamics and looks maybe
Disadvantages: - More expensive
- Once you have stick them down, difficult to relocate
- Need a suitable flat backing

Don't panels need space between them and the van?

Don't panels need space between them and the van? They always used to recommended it for the framed ones, but I think they have improved the technology of the flat ones so they generate less heat and can just be stuck straight down.

I was getting 16v going into my battery from 100w solar panel on Wed!
Have been very impressed with how good the panel has been over winter - there was only about 2 weeks over the winter solstice when I wasn't getting quite enough power to fully recharge the battery but even so even on dull cloudy days it was still putting something back into the battery.
Its full steam ahead now though, most days the battery is showing 12.8v by the time the panel stops charging (scuse the mixed metaphor).
The solar panel has made a real massive difference and I can't imagine how I managed without it.
I paid £89 including delivery for mine from eBay, well, actually, I didn't pay for it but that's another story involving a courier who managed to lose a solar panel for 3 weeks...

Yes fitting solar panels is a no-brainer nowadays, with them being so cheap. I think your panel is performing better than mine, I need to put my other one on to give me 180W. They also mean you can extend the working life of one's batteries. Even a poor battery will usually give an evening's low current use if it has been charging all day
