Excellent thread, imo!
Yes, underground and steel containers are good, imo.
Trouble is nowadays, even in the jungle or wilderness ( and especially on historic coomon or heath land) we come under attack from all quarters - not just the fkn councils and nearby house-dwellers.
There are powerful environmental lobbyists and activists - some of whom we may even sympathise with. Some of these busy-body meddlers seem to accept nothing bar newts and some rare grasses that we never heard of before.
In some ways, there is no turning back the clock. Things have gone for good: a way of life puuts little in the rulers' pocket so it was the first to go.
Even so, the competition for some of the choice spots in good striking distance of modern urban amenities and facilities is fierce, with rich man - prefereably with the right old-school connections - being the usual winner. Eg. check out Wimbledon and Putney Commons and Heath.
You're more likely to find our lot near some gasworks in Epsom with chalets and concrete hard-standing. Not much grazing for horses!
Cue Ajax and his traffic laws, though I don't suppose he looks in here much. he's happier being a privileged big fish in different small pond.

Or even grasses and some rare newts we didn't hear of before!
Or bats. Now bats are the most protected of species. We have to stop work on projects for 6 months not because there are bats nesting, just that there *might be*. And we aren't allowed to check to see if there any, because that would disturb the hypothetical bats.
You've heard of Schrodinger's cat. This is Schrodinger's bat ... he may or may not be there, dead or alive, and you aren't even allowed to open the box to check!

It's surprising how all of the costs mount up, I think I'd have to allow £16000 pa at least based on those calculations. Interesting & food for thought.
