Our trip 'over there' involved a ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe. It was our first time on a ferry (well I did go on the Woolwich ferry once!lol) Euro tunnel is our usual choice. We booked a basic crossing, so just lounged around in the bar areas for the 4 hour overnight trip.It wasnt too bad, considering we werent properly equipped with a pillow, sleeping bag , or even foam camping mats, as many others were! We had a huge light show in the night sky as all the windows were lit up with a thunder and lightning storm on the whole crossing! To my amazement I didnt feel sick, as the boat was steady as a rock.and we embarked at Dieppe fine.
The return Santander to Plymouth on the Pont Avon was a different story! Rolling seas meant I was feeling really rough for 21 hours,it seemed like never ending purgatory to me, blergh! Swmbo doesnt suffer travel sickness at all and was fine and visited the restaurants etc on her own, as I suffered in the cabin we booked! She came back telling me of all the lovely food ! Blergh ! I cant even ride in the back of a car without feeling queasy.I cant seem to shake the illness , and according to my parents, have suffered since I was born with it.
So , would I travel by ferry again? Well , I would chance the channel crossing, even though Ive heard it too can get rough, but theres no way I will put myself through the risk of the longer crossing.Once the protection of the port/coast is reached, the sea swell ceases and its fine.We were told by another couple that the journey from Plymouth to Santander 2 weeks previous was calm , just like the port area, all the way across.
Sorry to ramble.
