My van is now officially a write off. Am hoping to get my two newish and expensive batteries out. BUT, should I take the table that came with the van, or is that mean?

It's going to auction so I'm in two minds. I think I'm right to take my batteries. I'm replacing main battery but not sure it'll fire up! My leisure battery was still on high charge when I went there today! Mixed opinions on t'other side...

I personally would not take the table but the batteries and gas bottles and all your crockery and personal belongings, unless you are attached to the table.

I would strip the lot.
Take out the fridge and the truma, they are very valuable. Then the stove/oven/sink and the zig. At least £1000 worth there.
(Don't forget to take all the control wiring and the control panel with the truma)

Before you strip it out, check the small print of any offer. The van could now be the property of the insurance company and if you strip our fittings they are within their rights to charge you the replacement cost, which can be new replacements if used aren't available!

unless you argue that you believe it's your property and generally obfuscate !

If it's a big deal just fit in some crappy old parts that don't work in place of the good ones. They have no idea what heater was fitted and if it was working or not. Those Trumas are worth a fortune, £1500 new. They'll probably sell the whole lot for scrap at auction for a few hundred quid and some geyser is going to get very lucky. Get lucky instead!

I would suggest that extra batteries on board , bottles etc. are personal belongings , as would be crockery , cutlery , blah , blah
even first aid kit , fire extinguisher
I know I certainly paid extra to put all those in my van

Just be careful you do not jeopardise your payout Carol. Unless they have already weighed you in, in which case, fill yer boots!
