All sounding good so far except I've just clocked that the gas locker has a lift up top and so will need about 18 inch clearance above it to get the bottle in and out :-(
I think it is still feasible but it will mean losing a bit of useful storage space and it won't be the easiest of jobs to get the gas bottle in and out.... unless I put a removable shelf in above it.... or a hinged shelf...
This is why I need to spend some time with other people and bounce ideas off them and get their opinions and advice on a number of things like that.
Nigel, I use the circular toothed drill bits for making holes in wood but haven't found them the easiest things to use, the bigger ones are particularly tricky. But I do have a trusty ancient 240v B&D hammer drill (bought in 1995 and still going strong and one of the best things I've ever spent good money on)

if the hole saws are yellow with starret printed on them they will cut through metal anything else I'm not sure and have worn the teeth away on other noname holesaws trying, I have a selection of starrett up to 64mm a decent mains drill and can cut holes through floors for you.

stonedaddy - thanks so much that's a lovely and generous offer, and it's nice to know you would trust me. But I think I'll be ok as if I can spend a week up with Marie with van under cover in industrial shed, I should be able to manage as things can be safely left outside the van overnight. And to be honest, I'd be terrified of having an accident! I've never had an accident but it would be sod's law that it would happen driving a vehicle that isn't mine! And you'd end up with it covered in white dog hairs from that bloody Staffie (why oh why didn't I listen to my sensible self which swore never to get another white dog after my first white collie died). I'll keep the suggestion in mind if I'm desperate. Do you need someone to help you get to Ulverston for your van? If you get the train to either Lancaster or Oxenholme, I can give you a lift down to Ulverston. Read more: freemotorhominguk.boards.net/thread/2377/help-required-conversion-pay-cash#ixzz34KMAKmjiJess if you have an accident I presume the insurance would cover that, but some are only third party when loaned out. Dog hairs I've lived with all my life. Thanks for the lift to Ulverston but my mate lent me a Ford Galaxy while he sorts the timing belts out and its one hell of a struggle getting it in the guards van. As for the Holes in gas cupboard bigger is better, like Nige said 30mm min. The manufactures made ones in my floor are at least 60mm and there are two of them. Don't forget to cover them with fine gauze or you will get unwelcome visitors in the night. ( I am to fat even without gauze over them ). .. .... Tom ....

Lol, re unwelcome visitors, that's the cat's job! I was lying in bed one night last year, just about to doze off when I heard all kinds of noises going on, so switched the light on to see the cat playing with a live mouse, which managed to get free and scuttled off - the cat then spent the next half hour or so prowling and sniffing in all the nooks and crannies in the van. I switched off the light and was just about to doze off again leaving her to it, when I heard her crunching up bones etc - problem solved :-D
The gas locker that was in the van which I'm planning to reuse has a drop out vent in it, from memory it's about 3cm diameter and as the van belonged to Network Rail, and everything had to be done properly and by the book, I'm confident that will be ok. The locker has a tight fitting lid, but I will probably put some gauze across the vent hole to keep bugs out.
Tom, do give me a shout if you do end up needing a lift to Ulverston, it's a nice part of the world and it would be a good excuse for me to have a night or two away down there. Hope it all gets sorted soon.

I usually stay at the Isle of Walney or Haverigg when visiting him but I did notice a nice beach coming up the coast from Barrow which I may look into next time I am up there. .... Tom ....
