<Click to enlarge> This week I got a Hudl Android tablet and Mifi with mobi data sim for better mobile computing. Here's a crafting idea if you have a similar combination. Although the Hudl is great value at £120 it doesn't have 3G so if you want that as well when travelling, you'll need a Mifi. Mine works off the Three network. Ther Mifi Sim holder made for the Hudl tablet and the Huawei E5331 Mifi. The mifi holder was made out of black duck tape and plastic cut from take away food boxes. It's difficult to work neatly in duct tape so I'll be covering it in fabric, probably black fur which is good at hiding imperfections. The holder will make sure the mifi is kept with the Hudl and thus not get lost when travelling. It will also keep the mifi near the Hudl for a good signal. It works in both the handheld and desktop positions. The holder has cut-aways so you can see the display and also access the mini USB port for charging. The mifi is a very snug fit in the holder so there is no way it can come out accidentally but both the mifi and the holder can easily be separated from the Hudl.

Cheers, well it is a bit rough looking but very solid.
That's the nature of duct tape... but I will post another photo with the covering on. I thought I'd show these views first though as otherwise you won't see how it is put together too clearly.

V, when I've used mifis, I've found it better to place them near a window or hatch for a stronger input signal; the output is enough to reach the length of our narrowboat so should be ample in a van.

This set up is mainly for travelling to London and on business etc or going on walks, but yes if needed in a house or van the mifi can be very quickly taken out of the pouch and placed near a better 3G signal area.
