By the way, I don't think we can do "groups" on here but he can have his own threads, or we can even have a category for groups with group sub forums if people want it

Hi Haydn,
I believe the site was formed by a few members who were concerned that if the big W ever closed, a lot of old friends would be out on a limb.
It is not meant to be in direct competition and members on here have not left the big W!
That is my understanding.

Good thinking. Is WC on the cards to be sold or close?

Hi Haydn, I believe the site was formed by a few members who were concerned that if the big W ever closed, a lot of old friends would be out on a limb. It is not meant to be in direct competition and members on here have not left the big W! That is my understanding. Absolutely spot on. The 5 administrators (Firefox, Kangaroo, Rubbertramp, Winddancer and myself) were a little worried that if, for whatever reason, the WC forum were to go, we would miss our companionship with other like minded people so much that we wanted to set up something just in case that happened. We have all made some very good friends through that forum and none of us have any intention of leaving other forums (as far as I know). For me personally, I felt a little constrained sometimes in posting on a bigger forum because I wasn't sure if I'd misunderstood a post I'd taken objection to, or didn't feel confident in posting my true feelings on an issue in case of there being a backlash. This is not a criticism, but this can happen with bigger forums where the majority of members do not know each other personally. We are NOT intending to run this as a business, and do not see ourselves as a rival forum - merely a more intimate forum for those of us who have become good friends through membership of other forums. We would very much like to maintain friendly relations with any other wild / free camping forums, and hope that our friends from other forums will see this as a meeting place where members are more likely to be personally acquainted with each other because it is smaller and more of a chat forum. We have not promoted the forum in any way as yet, and do not intend to "poach" members from other forums, and up until now, new members have come as a result of personal acquaintance or invitation. We sincerely hope that members will benefit from being members of a number of different forums. As we see ourselves more as a circle of friends, our philosophy is that we all have an equal say in the running of the forum and any decision making will be done on a democratic basis so that everyone can feel that they have a claim to ownership of the forum. No-one should feel concerned about posting their personal feelings in case someone is offended, as there will be no bannings or warnings without a vote which is open to all members. In this way, it will remain a community and decisions will be community decisions. There have to be administrators who have more authority than mods and members, simply in order to make the day to day smaller decisions, and to do the donkey work to keep this a happy smiley place. We very much would like members to become involved in helping the forum work well by taking ownership of their own local county or area, so that people with personal knowledge of locations and who can keep an eye on them, can report back. So if a county is missing (and there are still quite a few which are missing simply because we haven't had time yet to do them all but they will be done in due course) and you would like it adding, or if you would like to be a mod of a particular board or county, do put your name forward. There will have to be a limit on mod numbers at some point but in true free camping style, perhaps we should cross that bridge when we come to it Firefox has been the spearhead of the 5 of us - his geeky skills have meant that he was best placed in terms of the physical set up of the forum, both Kangooroo and I have web publishing skills too, and Winddancer and Rubbertramp are level headed and objective and have extensive knowledge in their own particular areas of interest. We are however very much learning on the job and I'm sure we'll make mistakes but hope that in the spirit of the forum, folk will understand this and make allowances. Edit : btw, welcome to MTM

What do you mean unloved Course we love him Just look at all the attention he's getting; we can also have special forum for Wales And what WVW said BTW, she has a way with words I'll also add that the way we are doing wild camping locations is different. They will be free but members will need to do 250 posts before they get access and they are password protected. Apply to an admin for the PW if you have 250 posts or have been given them. People that we know we can trust or know form other sites will initially be given 250 posts free. We are building them up from scratch but because access is more controlled than other sites there will be many exclusive places that are not on other forums. So it will not all be dangerous lay byes and well known council car parks with no overnight parking signs. The forum may have a different mix than other places too and will probably appeal more to those with alternative lifestyle, festival goers, oldish hippies (no pun intended!), off grid lifestyles, and /or new age travelers although all views and types of people are welcome
