Good idea - can use for cooking on the fire pit or even an open wood fire.

Yes it's worth pointing out that small one is no good for us.
We would need the large one (8-14 people) at £58 or the extra large (14-20) people at £75
(You have to select the options from the pull down menu on the page, otherwise you will just see the small one)
I'm thinking the £58 one may be enough for most meets. We have the cash for either, but I wonder about the size and transportation and storage aspects - someone has to lug it along.

Any preferences for large one (8-14 people) at £58 or the extra large (14-20) people at £75 ?
I think the large one would work most of the time. 14 people is 9 vans at 5 couples, 4 singles (10+4)
There's not that many times we are going to be wild camping and have more than 9 vans, and if we ever do, there could always be two lots of hotpot (assuming everyone wants to eat the stew!)

I knew you'd like the big one. Will Captain McNasty fit in there though... they don't give dimensions!
I might email them and ask for dims of the two biggest sizes to see how storage/transportation will work.

I might email them and ask for dims of the two biggest sizes to see how storage/transportation will work. Whichever one you go for, it is worth seasoning it properly when you get it. (Even though they are advertised as pre-seasoned) It is best done in a barbecue, as it will stink out the house and set off all of your smoke alarms! Also make sure it has the ridge round the lid for holding coals on top, (in case you go for a different one to the one advertised).

Ronnies do an 8 litre for £39
Greenman do a 10 litre for £58 or 14 litre for £75
Both the 8 litre and 10 litre are advertised as feeding up to 14 people, and the 14 litre advertised as feeding up to 20.

Might be best with the 14 to cover all eventualities, but they are a big heavy piece of kit so depends on who will look after it and bring it to the meets, if that will be yourself Vernon, probably best for you to pick the size. We can always bring my 4 litre one as a backup!

We can always bring my 4 litre one as a backup! It won't be me, probably Charlie, as I have enough space for firepit only. Although, if we buy it with forum funds it will travel all over the country, for example it can go to Ribblehead next month, and many different people may transport it. If we want one more for Southern Frosties meets then we'd probably be best chipping in £5 each from southern contingent. Or maybe we could get two £39 pots, one for north and one for south. The funds would stretch to that

I'm not in favour of spending forum funds on a Dutch Oven. Can't remember being at a meet and noticing the absence of one or when anyone has commented that one was needed. It is a good piece of kit though!

I enquired on sizes and
9qt = 360w x 330w x 220h (max dims)
12qt = 430w x 390w x 230h (max dims)
They are actually in Chelmsford, so I could pick up if needed to avoid postage. Looking at the sizes, if we did get one, I'd vote for the 9qt for easier transportation/storage considering it will need to travel north and south to various meets.

Does anyone else think it's a good idea or not? Or are you all indifferent to spending some funds on this? We have £321 in the kitty at the moment, so it would be £57 or £75 out of that...

I agree Mike. In that order actually. Though I've not been to a meet where there was a communal shelter. Apart from the Devon meet and the bothy! I think a small marquee or gazebo would be great but 1) who would carry it? And 2)!you couldn't really put one up at a real wild meet.

I kept the poll open - it was due to close the end of February, but I think some people have yet to see it or vote. Any more votes and opinions - only about 10 people voted so far.

I'm not struck on the idea.it'll need filling and washing and transporting and caring for,and rarely used I think,so more hassle than it's worth.i could see the money used more on instant gratification,like a late night takeaway or a steam engine ride,or entrance to something
