Cool, check out my guitar tabs section.
Freight Train is a good folk song to get started finger picking with. I'll try to put up some more. Got some good ones for the Godfather theme.

It is a battle and fingers take time to grow used to the strings with harder skin.
Some of the TABs look really tricky and you'll wonder how you'll ever play them, but start really slow a note at a time and after a few weeks or months you'll wonder what the problem was!
My fave chords:
O 1 0 2 3 x
C Major
3 0 0 0 2 3
G Major
1 1 2 3 x x
F Major

Mike, Get a Sax again M8!!! THE most emotive instrument IMHO....! An Old Friend has 4 (grown up) kids, all musically talented, & the Youngest took up the sax...mainly 'cos the others all went for guitars! Sadly, He did n't stick with it but just blowing the odd note over his bro's G Chord still sounded great on Bonfire Night! Go On! We're top-heavy on Guitars here!!!

I would say then get a violin too. Violin and sax can both make you cry like no other instruments but need dedication to play solo and they are not really campfire instruments. The guitar can bring pleasure with a lot less skill level and is easy on the ears when you are just playing around like no other instrument can be. It's the true utility instrument, bass, rhythm, solo, versatile, portable - you can't ask more.

Very true....there's just something about the sound of a sax for me that tops all!

I made my granddaughter cry when I played the violin. With laughter.

I used to play the violin, reckon I could still knock out 'twinkle twinkle little star'.
Move over Yehudi.

I am not musical and many many years ago in school I took up the violin (still don't know why) the lessons where held in the staff room which had its own small loo, I was so bad and put everybody off they used to put me in the toilet to practise on my own and my mum used to send me upstairs into the furthest room to play - she said it made cat screeching musical - not tried since (my singing sounds like cats too)

Shame a 'learners' violin can't be made, with 'fret' markers (like some fretless bass g'trs have) so intonation can be spot-on......Project for someone?...

I have seen some learner's violins marked with tape or you can even buy overlays eg: But in practice it is not that difficult in first position in easy keys like G or C. Just a matter of second finger up to third or back to first (+F natural on the E string in the key of C which is first finger right back on the nut) It's the higher positions above third position which are tricky, because the notes are getting closer together, and you have less reference points. But by the time you get advanced enough to be using fith/seventh position you are supposed to be good enough to work all that out for yourself having practised endless scales in obscure keys (which I could never be bothered with) hence why I only use first and third position mainly!

My fingers are killing when does this stop

My fingers are killing when does this stop I don't want to discourage you, so I am going to lie. In truth, it depends hold old you are and how often you practice. For me, starting from a long absence from playing, it took me about 6 weeks, I think. My fingertips went through a process of getting calloused, peeling off and then the skin underneath was tougher without being hard. Also, it doesn't take long for your fingertips to soften up again if you stop playing for any reason. I haven't played for three or four weeks and when I picked it up yesterday, my fingers got sore again.

One or two months for hard skin (calluses to develop), maybe just a few weeks for some. To start with, you'll only be able to practice for a limited time each day (30-60 mins maybe). As your fingers develop you should be able to play for a few hours a day without discomfort. But maybe split it up across the day. If they are too sore give it a break for one or two days

A Sax would be far less painful on the Pinkies M8!! I just brought my Sax down from the loft! Not played it for y e a r s but always wanted to get back into it. Thanks to my neighbours for the last bit of incentive (oh yeah, mwahh ha ha) When I was at school I played guitar, but gave up because everyone expects you to sing as well. I dont get that problem with the Sax That said, I will now sing in public and sod what others think, lol!

^ I don't think his left hand technique is making much difference, but look on the bright side, with a capo on the 5th, he can play an A minor chord if he plucks the bottom string and the top three
