Those bow drills are tricky. Need the right kind of woods. The time I have lit fires without matches has either been with steel, flints, and tinder or with a magnifying glass.
(I think if you double click on the reply rather than single click it may double post sometimes. Also, you may be able to delete your own post if nobody else has posted - not sure about that though!)

just looked at your link gaz,that's not what we called a dutch arrow.it's more like a spear chucker.we would wind a bit of string around the arrow shaft from the feather end and it would spin when thrown,bet yours was like that yeah... made a small nick just in front of the flight... couple of winds round with the lace then launch ...id never seen the two stick approach before to be honest principle still the same ...maybe you get more propulsion with the two?..besides we might have killed someone had a few near misses lol
