No not in the Motorhome! Just been out to my shed and the mice have been in causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to mine and my two sons fishing tackle. Given that mice can get through the tiniest of gaps, does anybody know if there is such a thing as a mouse proof shed?

There is if you put the cat's bed in it ;-)
sorry about the damage, can you claim on house insurance?
There's a thread on WC about the very subject, it appears that mothballs are the best solution after a cat.

Some out there for sale to the public are pretty useless. My daughter used the Asda stuff in her shed and the mice were gone PDQ

I also read that if you scatter dog/cat hair around it will put them off. Believe me, I have an endless supply of dog hair!

In all seriousness, if you know someone with a cat who has a spare cat bed blanket, it might well be worth borrowing it and leaving it draped over the fishing tackle, and then getting it recharged with cat smell from time to time.
Also if you have power in your shed, you can get an electronic sonic device that's supposed to deter rodents. I've seen a solar powered version but probably not much use at the moment!
I've also been told that especially in the case of rats, regular disturbance can encourage them to move home, not sure if there's any truth in this but just in case there is, about once a week, I let the dog have a good rummage round the back of my sheds, he knows the word "rats" and needs no encouragement to have a sniff and rummage round. If nothing else, at least he's leaving some of his smell in there.

Must do it in the spring Will, Barbel are very hard to catch in the winter, maybe have a day's Chubbing on the Trent though sometime after Xmas?

Decided not to go the insurance route, premium would go up and I don't think we're covered for such a large amount of gear without declaring it. I think that a lot of gear is still useable although not now in pristine condition so only worth a fraction of it's value (not that i would sell it anyway).
Lessons learned - Mouse proof the shed
Photograph and make an inventory of any specialist gear you keep for insurance purposes!

This is the time of year when they look for some where to overwinter ,last year I found one in my garage in a cardboard box on a shelf.Something made me open the box and inside was a mouse and 4 babies, also in the box was the eberspacher heater to fit in the van . Mice were quickly evicted, also found some living in the compost bin down the garden, they left on their own accord when the weather warmed up.

I lived in a farm cottage for 5 years 87-92 and we always had loads of mice. They used to come in autumn time. Never believe the saying quiet as a mouse, they were bloody noisy buggers, scratting around in the small hours in the bedrooms trying to find food. A highlight was cornering one and catching one with bare hands. We kept a couple of them in a fish tank with some ply on the top, but they somehow managed to knaw their way out making a hole in the corner of the ply even though it was weighted down and the walls of the tank were smoooth - lord knows how they did it!

The good news is that now I have fully inspected, some of the luggage I thougt was damaged is in fact just covered in chewed debris from my chair. This is a huge relief as the luggage is really expensive gear. This will bring the damage cost way down and has made my day! Still peed off about my bedchair though, I'd only used it once
