a piece of waste pipe from an old washing machine normally fits onto the outlet of a sink nicely just keep your eyes open on your travels, or get wombling at the local tip

Lol, loving the girl power pic, I think I need to print and laminate it for the van although I don't think I've ever possessed a pair of shoes like that. Haha, I wear them at work sometimes; they turn the guys to putty - guaranteed! But they also do the same to your feet Still, every cloud has a silver lining ;D

There's a screw thread on the bottom of the white plastic plug drain, so I think I need some kind of screw fitting to attach the pipe to it, I might even have something in my shed, but if not, I think it'll just be a few £££ to buy one.

It varies, but sometimes washing machine waste pipes (the grey flexible ones from Wickes) work well with those type of sinks. I used them on both my sinks.

That's what I've got, flexible grey pipe with rings and grooves around it, with the funnel stuck into the top.
No desperate rush but hopefully I'll be near shops at the weekend so can probably get something then.

There's a variety of sizings for domestic waste pipe threads. Pipe/thread/fittings are usually advertised as 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" or might be advertised as 32mm or 40mm.
Though I find the grey flexible washing machine hose fits over the outlets on many of those camping sinks. Usually I play around in Wickes taking the fittings out of the plastic bags and seeing what will fit onto what!

That's where mobile phones come in so handy as if you can't take the piece in to the shop, you can at least take in a photo of it, or take photo of the part before buying so you can check it's what's needed.

I've found that fittings from different suppliers don't mix and Match very well,B&Q don't go with Wickes

another use for a hot air gun is to warm up rigid waste pipe and it goes soft enough to stretch it over bigger pipes,or just to make a joint.you can do it with a gas fhob but it scorches the surface.also when buying waste pipe be aware that the 32mm for push fit connections is a different size to the 32mm for glue fit !

Good thinking batman, I got an elec hot air gun. Also plenty of sikaflex, impact adhesive, ptfe tape so am sure I can cobble something together - it'll make the rest of the van, bodge it and make do ;D

I suggest you use glue welded pipe and fittings on the van because the compression ones will loosen with vibration and then leak. It may be better to have a look for flexible pipe, they sell it in Go out doors if there is one near you, as then you will cut the cost of all the fittings you will use with rigid and it will be easier to fix it to the sink with sikaflex and tape. Ive just looked at Screwfix and there are some flexible waste pipes in their catalogue for use with 32 or 40 mm wastse pipe. I hope this may be of use.

I've got flexible pipe, I just need to fix it to the screw thread on the bottom of the sink. But thanks for the tips. Am going to be near shops this weekend so will have a wander around the DIY stores - as the sink isn't fixed in, just sitting in the frame I can take it in with me, plus the pipe and I'll just do the helpless female thing and let a shop assistant solve the problem (I'll say my husband has sent me out to get a fitting but I don't know what to buy and I daren't go home without getting it sorted) ;D

Yes it's always good to hear about work that others have done on their vans.I also think that a picture tells a thousand words and often inspires others to have a go too.

Just a quick update... The bed is bliss, better than bed at home. Its hard work getting out of it in the morning Got the pipe fitting for the sink £3, will fit it later. Also picked up fusebox, isolator switch, various rocker switches, wire etc for all under £20 in cheap shop. Sussed that battery problems was because of loose terminal connections ~ now fixed. Lost the cat for 1 night because she got chased by a dog but found her next day in church garden hiding under brambles. Been away 4 nights so far another 2 or 3 to go yet. Tis very blowy up here on the Lancashire moors. Will try to post pics when got decent dongle reception. Happy vanning. ;D
