Hi Tom, if you fancy a drive out it's only 3 hours down the A1... I was thinking about it big time. I thought I could get there for an evening visit and stay somewhere for a night. Unfortunately Jose has been really ill herself and in huge pain. Since selling the old van and tow car I have been lifting flags that had sunk over the years and jet washing them. That led to the rest of the outside paths and things having to be done and re-sanded. I have had to go shopping with little notes telling me what to get like a little kid. I have also had to run her to hospital for appointments. Then there was Rocco needing his walks and things. I need to get everything sorted for my trip to Hereford next weekend so the kids can come over and sort her out if she needs anything. She's to ill to make it to Hereford even though she usually goes to that meet. I imagine that Vern will be close to getting discharged by the time the Hereford meet is over but if he is still in I will have a rethink. .... Tom ....

Pleased to hear there's a steady improvement, Vern. I don't envy you the Metronidazole, I hate that stuff, makes me feel like I have a permanent hangover and you can't even have a drink to justify it.
Sorry that Josie isn't well and can't come to Hereford, Tom, please give her my best wishes.

Sorry that Josie isn't well and can't come to Hereford, Tom, please give her my best wishes. Metronidazole on IV gave me a bit of nausea. But manged to get through it. Now on tablet form for that one which seems to be OK. Ticcopleinin is always IV and makes me a bit dizzy. Along with the other one they are quite nasty antibiotics. No wonder the bacteria don't care for them! Alcohol with either one of these would likely cause vomiting. I remember coming back on tube train about 1981. Forgot I was still on Septrin for an ear infection. Anyway, had a pint after the match to celebrate a win, and was either too young or too stupid to remember the medication. Bridge match supper ended up on the seats the other side of the carriage Won't make that mistake again!

Update on Vern. I gave him a ring tonight and was expecting him to be full of beans after our last phone call a few days ago. Unfortunately he has relapsed somewhat but assures me he is feeling a bit better tonight than he has been over the last few days. On the good side of things he seems to have lost his cough, has I have not heard him cough once tonight. I thought he was not posting much and it turns out he has not been walking this last few days has he's been feeling right under the weather. He has a terrible neck pain that has developed and thinks it could be just laying about all the time. He asked for some ointment to rub into his sore neck and it took three days to get it out of pharmacy. He is having problems with his blood count with them giving him not enough insulin then giving him to much so he is up and down like a yo yo.I think he said at the moment they are giving him too low a dose then topping it up with biscuits and things. He is still on all his other drugs and he is like a pin cushion with all the injections and blood samples. They are struggling to find a place to get his Cannula in has every one and his dog have been trying to insert them. He is waiting to have a thin pipe put into his main arm artery which will run up his arm which will allow them to pump drugs straight into him without using the Cannulas which keep blocking up and having to be cleaned or reinserted. He did say he was going to try and have a little walk down the corridors later on, but weather he does or not I wont know until the next phone call. Brian his dad rings every night and the members of his bridge club visit him and bring fruit and things. All in all he has gone backwards a bit which is depressing but lets hope he is on the mend now. The future meets are a bit worrying specially the long Orkney Isles trip because he will have to visit the hospital on a regular bases to get intravenous treatment that can't be done on the road. He still is not happy with the hospital food which he says is not enough calories in it to stop him being hungry. Some better news is he has lost a lot of weight and has come down from about fifteen stone to twelve and a half stone. So watch out when Vern's about, he will be like a racing snake on those walks. Well thats about it, I am sure I will have got some of it right. .... Tom ....

Good to see you are feeling better today Vern. Don't know anything about the drugs you are on but they sound not to go mixed with beer. Hope you are managing to keep your spirits up. It looks like you won't be missing much at Kirkby weather wise any how. We will be making good use of our heaters me thinks. Hugs x

Hopefully it was some of the abscess healing up and releasing bacteria. I think this can happen as the abscess gets smaller and closes up. They can only tell by examining the blood samples and and seeing what bacteria are in there, and doing cultures to see how they react to the current antibiotics. But it could be bacteria from another infection etc so we just don't know at the moment.
But I am feeling much better this morning and over the last day, so that's a positive sign.

Well thanks for the concern for Jose, Sue, Ems, Nige, and Anne. I took her to the doctors today and she was in agony. He gave her morphine patches to go with all her other medication. I hope that should help to keep her going so I can have my tea and toast in bed. Before she leaves for Greece and the wedding she goes into hospital for injections into her knees. They say that should keep her going for 10 days. If it doesn't work I can't see any point in her going because she wont be able to walk anywhere or join in the wedding. She will be a real downer for the others. I may have to book her in hospital so Vern has got some company. Half an hug Anne, last of the big spenders hey, suppose at my age beggars can't be choosers. .... Tom ....

You know very well you will get a great big hug Tom every time I see you! Poor Josie , the pain must be awful, are they going to operate or anything? I don't know what the outcome will be Anne. Its not only the pain from her arms and legs but she seems to have other problems too. I am sure all the medication she is on doesn't help, she has pills that counteract other pills and you won't believe the different creams she has to rub into her joints and muscles. I think she has enough prescription drugs to keep all the druggies on our estate happy for a month. She did get up for ten minutes this morning but she is back in bed now. She usually does the Hereford trip because it has always been a sunny weekend, No chance of it this year though, so looks like I will have to rough it with Rob and Paul. . Oh and I forgot Rocco. .... Been busy with my mum in hospital so sending hugs to Jose, I am sure she could borrow a wheelchair to get to the wedding if needed. Goodness I don't know what its coming to. Vern can't make any meets this weekend so he is holding a FMUK meet at the hospital. Vern, penny's mum, Jose,Lister Diesel, (Peter) and all the poorly members must bring there own drugs and bandages. Members on prescription morphine must not be dealing it inside hospital premises. The hospital canteen will be open to members and food will be free has no one else wants it. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads especially in the high dependency units and operating theaters. There is no camp fires allowed on the wards. Generators are only allowed in the corridors, but must be switched off before 5:00 am. Nurses must not be interfered with unless by personal request. All rubbish must be collected and disposed of outside the hospital grounds, any drugs in it will be handed round the local druggie community. I know the rules are harsh but if not adhered to members will be asked to leave the site unless they will stand in for junior doctors who are on strike. Hell rules, rules, rules, whats the world coming to. Give your mum a big hug for me Penny. I think she is on the road to recovery is she not after her fall. Has for Jose in a wheel chair, yikes can you imagine how far astray she will be led by that Daisy Minni member, phew. .... Tom ....

That was so funny Tom I had a great mental picture of it all! But poor Josie she must be well fed up , has she tried a wheel chair? It would be good to get her out a bit if she is up to it. Are they doing anything though apart from pumping her up with drugs ? How are you today Vern? Hope you are still improving? You must be well fed up too Sorry about your mum penny how is she? Here's to some good news soon!

Hi Vernon well have you got snow, hope that today your felling a bit better. Mum is out of hospital and comfy at home the good news is they found out why her balance isn't good, the side effect of Vesicare a tablet she takes and postural hypertension a common ailment. For me the good news is she will wear a panic button which comes as a wrist band now. Think she is pleased I have left she has been organised to within a inch of her life. All the neighbourghs have offered help which is lovely. Tom see you soon and Mum did chuckle at your post. Enjoy your weekends guys whoever you are and count your blessings ...

I am here waiting to set off for Hereford and would you believe some scaffolder's have turned up and started building scaffolding around my house and next doors. Next doors has stood empty for years bar for it being used as a cannabis farm. Both houses are having new roofs installed. The lady who now owns next door is a property developer and she has ordered next doors property to be fully revamped including new roof. I took the opportunity to have mine done at the same time. I was expecting to be home from Hereford before it all started but they turned up this morning of all mornings. Jose has been up but gone back to bed feeling sick again. I think these guys should finish scaffolding round the two houses sometime today. Then I hope there is a pause until after the bank holiday when the roofers should turn up and start stripping the roof off. I hope to be home for when they start. To make matters worse her builders started work yesterday stripping all the inside out for a full re plaster and refurbishing. So this really is a bad situation. Jose is in bed while all this is going on and its like emergency ward 10 in her bedroom with all her medications round her bed. I hope when I do get to Hereford the weather is better than here, it is freezing cold, raining and sleeting it down, and bloody windy. Then I noticed the worst thing of all Rob has took his name off the Hereford list so its Tommy no mates round at the Barrels pub. drinking that special brew of theres called a barrel of laughs, how appropriate a name for a beer at this moment in time. Well going to take the dog a walk and hope to be leaving in the next couple of hours. Anne I don't think a wheel chair for Jose at this moment in time will be any good for her. Its not just the pain in her legs that is bothering her, it is her all round sickness she feels all the time. She can't even sit in a chair for long she has to go up to bed and just lie down. She not even happy when doing that. I feel like nicking one of her morphine patches at the moment just to make me a bit happier, but then I think of the barrel of laughs and it cheers me up no end ..... I was hoping to go over to Stevenage from Hereford and pay Vern a visit on the Tuesday and stay the night in the pub Carol parked in. I could then do an evening visit, but circumstances may stop me doing that at this moment in time. So if you are reading this Vern I could still turn up unexpected depending on phone calls from home. No matter what I hope you are still improving. Is there any empty beds near you I think I could do with a rest myself. .... Tom ....

Bad timing for Jose If it's any consolation, it's bright and sunny in Herefordshire today. It's also cold and there are heavy hail showers but it's pleasant in-between which has been the pattern for the last few days and expected over the weekend.
