Hey all. I still have my R & R bed from my Trafic & today i was looking at it & noticed that it has a rolling mechanism for left & right motion. I hadn't noticed this before. Thing is, it appears to have a single levered bolt to hold it steady & by pulling that bolt back you can then, in theory, move the bed left & right. The runners are clearly there on the frame but i cannot for the life of me work out how it shifts. I must be missing a really obvious trick somewhere. Has anyone else got this mechanism ? Or seen one like it before ?

I have never seen one like that before Jon, the ones I know go front and back only.
Are there slotted holes in the runner support brackets?

I have never seen one like that before Jon, the ones I know go front and back only. Are there slotted holes in the runner support brackets? Next time i go to it (It's in storage) i'll take some pictures. It's odd, a nice R&R bed & yes, it does the usual roll forward & back. I was showing it to some guy who might have wanted to buy it & i noticed the side rolling runners, hadn't seen them before. It appears to have a side shifting function & as simple as it looks i havn't been able to work out how it releases yet. Gonna go back for another try & i'm thinking of hanging on to it now anyway. Dunno about slotted holes, again, i'll take another look soon. I'll get back when i have pics. Cheers.

It's an unusual function as most of them are sandwiched between cupboards so couldn't move either way!
However I could see a use bringing out the bed to sleep and then pushing it against a wall as a seat so you could do a walk/sqeeze past to the back storage. It would need to move 200-300mm though ?

Wish mine went sideways instead of backwards and forwards. Then I could just sleep on it without having to pull it out at night.

I managed to work the thing out. There were a couple of bolts through its roller bars holding a pair of 'D' rings. I just took those out & hey presto, it rolls sideways about 18". Really good because the lever for the seat section always used to get jammed against the sliding door frame but now i will be able to shift it to the left & roll it further back. Ironically i didn't have my camera with me today, it was an unscheduled visit to the container but i will get those pics before long. Neat little feature.

Yes, could be useful in some tight layouts, and lets face it most van layouts are tight. 18" would also be enough for a reasonable walkway in some set ups.

Well, it side-shifts on the rigid frame so you couldn't walk there but what i could do is slide it as a 3/4 bed, all the way over to the cupboards & then fill the gap with cussions for a full double bed..... Probable best to wait for the pictures really. I would be more forthcoming but the van is still parked up & waiting for a new turbo. In a week or so i might be mobile again. Until then i have a Suzuki carry to tide me over. You's have to be 3 feet tall to live in that thing !
