I had BT openzone which gets FON and BT wifi for a couple of years. It was not worth the subscription of £15 a month.
Reason being in wild areas no houses close enough. In towns the signal is affected by buildings so you have to be parked outside someone's house to get a decent signal. Usually you can't control where you park.
If you have BT home broadband and maintain an accessible router, I guess it is a no cost add on, but I don't fork out for the costs of home broadband.
3G/4G is much better quality and more widely available for on the move.

Good luck with it in Europe Alec... I can't say I have tried there.
BT say they have "no plans" to end mutual benefits to FON routers in the UK.
That is usually a code for the support will be ended at some time not far from now. What do you all think?
