C'mon, everyone likes some mash right ? Easy to prepare, simple to cook up & you only need a few bits to make it. Spuds on their own though.......are boring. Choose any veg you like, boil it up in one pan, add butter, milk, salt 'n' pepper or anything else you want & then get mashing. Superb eating & a great way to get some veggies in yer. Also an easy dish for camper vanners. Here's my fave. Some king edwards or spuds of your own selection. Sweet potato (Delish') Carrot. Swede. Chuck in some parsley. Chopped onion. Garlic (if you like) salt 'n' pepper. Any other herbs you fancy. A splash of milk (optional) Knob of butter (optional but worth it) Boil the whole lot together until it's all soft enough, maybe add some greens, brocolli or cabbage, half way through. Then when it's all done just get mashing. You will not go hungry after a helping of that lot & you can fry the leftovers for breakfast like a bubble & squeek style, add an egg or two. It's so versatile you can't go wrong & with winter closing in i guarantee it's a sure fire winner. Adjust to your own preference & shove some bangers on the side......Sorted I may not win any prizes for this but hey, quality eating.......if you like that sort of thing.

I love a good mash but I cheat when camping and buy Morrison's or tescos ready prepared mash the swede potato and carrot one and like you add to it I put half a pack (saving the other half for another day) into the frying pan with siced onions keep moving it about until reheated and onions are sift then I grate cheese and any herbs seasoning you fancy into it stir it about until cheese evenly distributed then squish it all down forming a pate and fry on each side to form a crustjust fab with bacon.

Yummy great tips Annie will try them both! Whilst on the subject of mash have you tried a potato ricer? It's like a giant garlic press just squeeze through and fluff up with a fork - add butter cream or milk as normal - cream optional but worth it. Don't ask me why but they taste loads nicer than normal mash makes lovely light fluffy mash - and it's loads easier

Yes I have one at home I just don't do my own mash in the van as its a faff and a tray of prepared 3 root veg is £1 does 2/3 meals for me in the van.

When I'm tent camping in Winter, I like to have a good hot meal. I often use Smash, but make it up with packet vegetable soup instead of water. With meat and gravy, It's very comforting especially when it's freezing cold outside.
Strange, but I wouldn't dream of eating it at home, and always hated the thought of Smash.
We also use a ricer at home, but like Annie, in the van we often use ready made.

Chopped onions, spring onions, olive oil, pepper, butter, mustard/mustard seeds and garlic are my favourite additions to mashed potatoes. Not necessarily all at once, but just two or three transform the dish.

Or of course some Corned Beef. You can't beat a bit of Corny Mash and cabbage!
