Were those last couple in the car park we found after we'd been driving round looking for somewhere for ages?

Yes near that bridge we bought. It was really strange as far as car parks go. The main road just ran through it. One way was on the far side and the other way was right in front of our vans. If you was half asleep and stepped in front of your van a bus would run you over. We survived a night there though. .... Tom ....

The fact that it's crossing a valley makes it a viaduct......via duct.....

Viaduct is a bridge with multiple spans, usually at high level so I guess this counts!
From latin "to lead the road/way" cf aqueduct "to lead the water"

Great pics of the bridge though Tom, they look almost computer generated. Very clean images.

So you go all that way to see a big bridge of the viaduct style when you could have popped up to Newcastle to see not only lots of viaducts but all the famous Tyne bridges including a swing bridge and the unique tilt bridge. Ps.and they are free to cross

Ps.and they are free to cross Yeah you right Chris but we had tunnel vision . There is two bridges near me at Barton. One is the Barton road swing bridge which opens to let ships go by to Manchester docks. The other is about a quarter of a mile further on but it is Barton aqueduct. This is the only bridge in the world that carries water over other water and opens. It is supposed to be one of the unnamed wanders of the world. It carry's the Bridgewater canal over the Manchester ship canal. Originally it was a fixed aqueduct that carried the Bridgewater canal over the River Irwell. It joined the river Mersey at Irlam. When they built the Manchester ship canal they had to steel the Irwell and from Manchester (Docks) built it all the way to Liverpool. The Irwell feeds the Ship canal and so does the Mersey at Irlam. It is still called the Mersey at the Liverpool end. At the time they reckoned that is was impossible to build this aqueduct which would turn carrying millions of gallons of water. Someone proved them wrong. I have got a couple of photos of it closed but since the demise of the docks very few big ships pass now Once it was open most of the time but It is hard go get a photo of it open now. I have some somewhere but just can't put my finger on them at the moment. .... Tom .... image hosting no register
