Hi All
Im so new im green right through. I stumbled on Vandogtravellers blogg very recently and am now hooked on the idea to get a van do it up and get out of the rat race for a while. Im taking early retirement in 12 months time and after being 'sensible' all my working life now looking to do something totally random. First off I would like to travel the whole UK coast then possibly venture further.
Im not giving up home life in anyway but want to travel for a few months at a time with no set plans on where to etc.
Im quite a handy man in a few areas so Im happy to get a build project going but I need to see and hear what you find works for you and any advice on must haves and nice to haves so please share what you can or point me in the right direction.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome to the club! I'v done my own self build but they are all very personal espec for longer term living. Best advice I could give is go to the one of the motorhome shows like the NEC show in October. www.motorhomeandcaravanshow.co.uk/There you can clamber around all the pro conversions and see what layouts and features you might like. Many of them can be the basis of a self build. Vans are always a compromise. You can have a big kitchen, or big lounge, or a garage, or lots of storage for clothes or gear ... it all depends on the person where you want to devote the space. Have fun on the forums!

Thanks for the welcome all and Im based up in the NE. Ive done loads of stealth camping but strangely never came across the idea of 'doing it' in a van. I love the idea of touring around and pitching up either on a site or some opportune off the grid spot. My needs will probably be fairly basic to start with as the periods will not be too long to start with.

Hi Firefox
My camping days go back years and most of the guys I went with still get together now. My concept of stealth camping is a mixture of bushcraft and going to places off the beaten track and not commercial. We are quite lucky where we are as we have plenty decent places to go. What appeals here is to take a standard panel van and work out a decent spec to make it as comfortable as I can then explore the UK for a few months at a time.
Hi Outtolunch
Thats a lovely offer thank you. Im looking to start a project in the new year or early summer so I will put that on my list thank you.
