Just a few pics of house refurb progress. Skip arrives. It was supposed to come at 9.00am - came at 7.50am. Luckily I was up. This happened last time too, though no warning this time. I think skip drivers operate in some kind of time warp!! Skip cost £248 Bulk items to be picked up by Veolia on behalf of the council on Thursday. Another £95 worth. Plus 3 mattresses and a fridge! Plenty of black bags for the skip. Plus the windows removed by Mr X will go in the skip too. Mattresses will go with bulk pick up.

Yes, hopefully! I have delayed getting a skip for a bit to save money, but it turned out to be a false economy and a mistake for which I hold my hand up. I don't know if they will let me bring the skip, but I may have a trailer

Vern don't waste all the mattresses and furniture. Get another self build going and get the tvs fridge and all that stuff installed in it and save pounds on hiring skips. . .... Tom ....

It might be suitable for some motorhoming maggots, but I don't think the market is that big

Old lean-to had to be demo'd to get the back window round, but it had mostly collapsed anyway. I had used old poster stakes 2" x 2" for the roof joists!! It worked for a while, but I don't think it took kindly to the snow after 20 years. Still, about 15 years out of some free timber wasn't bad.

Goodness you must be rich I could get another 20 years out of that couch. I bet it was sure comfy in its day. I suppose its a good job its gone because I bet it could tell a few tales if I took it down the pub and bought it a drink or two. When the new one comes Vern take a pic of it for us. .... Tom ....

I'm not sure I am having a new couch.
To be honest they are bulky and expensive and if I wanted to rent out unfurnished, it need to be got rid of again.
But if my dad came to stay, I may have to get one. Otherwise it may be minimalist "interim" layout, rugs, bean bags, low table, ornaments and a couple of lamps maybe. Bought the sofa in 1997, chosen and used a lot by mum, and it was super comfy. So got about 15 years out of it. It had covers on so was pristine up until the flood which destroyed it.

If you're not planning to live in the house but rent it out then IMO it's better to let it with flooring and nothing else. Tenants on an AST will almost certainly have their own furniture and if they're bringing their own furnishings then they tend to take better care of it and your own property.
Very pleased to see progress is being made.

Well done Vern!! Its hard isn't it - but then in the end it isn't!!Doing a similar thing here, though on a much smaller scale, it seems relentless, can only do it in chunks, but getting there and feeling chuffed!! Hoping to see you end of August xx

Mine seems relentless. Been going a year now. But I'm fed up of pussy-footing, I'm going for it in a really big way now. Got loads done this weekend. I want to be substantially finished in a couple of months now. Skip filled, garden cleared, apart from some scrap metal and I have enclosed part of the the garden with a fence where my trailer will be stored. Any further rubbish can go into the fenced part, out of site and straight into the trailer. I have 12 permits for visit to the council tip with a trailer, so I will be able to get rid of the most of the rest that way. I will get another skip if needed though. Lounge cleared of old furniture, ready for painting Gutter now in at back and down pipe and barge board Last look at old windows at back Skip being filled Garden clear Windows arrive Glass arrives Last look with old windows First window in Second window coming out Second window in

That's a lot of work but also a lot of visible progress which must be encouraging.
I know it's not been easy - but very well done.

Cheers, I'm in overdrive now! Charlie, Karen, and Austin have been fantastic. Loads of hard slogging prep work by Jess, especially in the back garden, and not forgetting Mark with excellent smooth as can be plaster finish. It would be a crime to put wallpaper over his work I think wallpaper was invented to cover up dodgy plastering skills!

Good job done there Vern, we are in the same process at present, hoping to rent ours out and hit the road and venture down South by November, Portugal, Spain Morocco again. Should have rented it out last year when we did similar for 9 months, came back to a damp home, It's amazing over the years how much junk you acquire and keep, maybe we are natural hoarders last three days I have been constantly going to the tip, not going down the skip road have sawed old furniture, sofa's etc up and fitted into the car, will need to rent a van to get rid of a few old fridges in the garden though Be Lucky hj
