This is the last one but you can see my original axle is a lot more beefy then the new one. I just hope its just an earlier or later model and not a different load weight. .... Tom .... image hosting free no registration

Ring the guys that refurbish them or allow they are all different and are built for different weights you really need to take some expert advice not some idiot from a scrapyard who just wants you to part with your money.

Ring the guys that refurbish them or allow they are all different and are built for different weights you really need to take some expert advice not some idiot from a scrapyard who just wants you to part with your money. Sent from my HUAWEI Y550-L01 using proboards Yup I did this last week. I tried phoning AL-KO UK and was left holding the phone for over half an hour. Then a voice said we are very busy and would advise that you phone back at a later time. Grrrrrrrrrr I tried again this morning and put it down after five minutes. I also sent an email to them asking for advice on the new axle has it still as its label on it. Unfortunately the old one has no label on it so can only give the Reg No and all details of the van. If it comes back that the axle can take the 3.5kg weight I can then carry on with it. But alas as with all this messing about time ticks on. I also phoned the motor suppliers traveling mechanic who is supposed to be passing sometime this week on his way to Blackburn but could only get his answering machine. Grrrrrrrrrr more hold ups. I have also sent another Email to the axle supplier with photos on comparing the two axles like those above. Now waiting for a response from those as well. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Every way I turn there is a hold ups and time waits for no one. One good thing is its pouring down today so could not do much anyway so will go out and get Nigel's cutting wheels and some welding rods. Lets hope someone has responded by the time I get back .... .... Tom ....

It looks the same on the arm and axle, just the mounting which was different. I hope it can hold 3.5kg Tom, even the bridesmaids should be able to manage that Fingers crossed anyway that it's a suitable part.

It looks the same Vern but if you look real close, the swinging arm is slightly thicker on the old one. Also look at the bearing case on the stub axle where the brake drum and wheel fits. It is a lot heaver and a different shape on the old one. I also think that is made out of cast iron where the new one is mild steel. That may be because it is a later model ( I hope). The fixing plate will be extended by cutting lumps off the old one and welding it on the new one. I just need some confirmation that the new one will take the weight then I can get on with it again. But has the norm no one has answered any thing I have asked yet. It is still raining heavy though so if it carries on I still would not be able to progress. .... Tom ....

Yup looks like plan B will go into action tomorrow. I have heard nothing about axle weights and the mobile mechanic which is supposed to be inspecting them tomorrow seems very remote on his movements at the moment. So I will go look at that other van tomorrow. Josie's arm is giving quiet a lot of cause for concern. The pain has gone into the other arm now and she is in agony most of the time. To top it all I went for her prescription today and it has not been made out and her doctor has gone on holiday. Life's full of fun at the moment, but it can only get better. .... Tom ....

Obviously, she doesn't need her own doctor as it'll all be in her notes so I hope you've got the prescription by now Tom.

Aw bl...y hell - give her my love Tom. She must be feeling absolutely fed up. It's been going on for such a long time. Do you think she will be up to travelling - are you able to sort something out for her to rest her arms on - hopefully you will have arm rest on seats of plan B. Have you got it yet? I had a frozen shoulder years ago and it was agony, like toothache and I couldn't bear to move my arm every little jolt in the roads hurt.

Yup plan B went into action today and I am now the proud owner of Rimor 678 on a transit base. This morning was the last straw at getting the mobile mechanic to call. He was obviously very frustrated this morning when I rang him and he hung up on me in the end. I then rang the axle supplier which is T & B motors. I asked him to confirm that the axle came off a Swift Kontiki has it would be very dangerous to fit it to mine if it had come off anything lighter. He went out while talking to me and then said he was stood next to the van and it is a Swift Kontiki weighing 3.5kg. He said fit it with confidence it will cause no problems. I have sent Paul a pm on WC has I have lost a lot of numbers when my phone got wet. He as a Koniki and I have asked him to check the fixings on his axle. I have not heard from him yet. I will go ahead and fit it and if its not up to the job when lowered onto the wheels I will have to scrap it. Trouble is I have to get this other one ready has well so everything is a race against time. I will get Josie's prescription tomorrow which is OK has she had stuff over from the last one. We won't know what her problems are until she has another scan which could be a couple of weeks away. She told the doctor we will be away but you can't rush hospital appointments. If she still not well she will have to make her mind up on the day if she is going or not.It sure has dragged on for quiet a while now. I wouldn't mind but she sure struggles to bring my breakfast and tea in bed in the mornings. Sometimes I feel like phoning her friend Carol who lives opposite to come over and give her a lift. Fingers crossed she be OK on the day. .... Tom ....

Congrats on new van! Does it look anything like this? I thought I'd post a random one of Rimor 678 on the Transit. I still hope the old van comes together though, it would be a shame to lose such a classic.

Congrats on new van! Does it look anything like this? I thought I'd post a random one of Rimor 678 on the Transit. I still hope the old van comes together though, it would be a shame to lose such a classic. That looks about it Vern, the front top bedroom is a slightly different shape to that one otherwise they are twins. Its really just an Italian ice cream van full of plastic cupboards and doors. Can't find any proper tree wood in it anywhere. It is really strange to drive because when you turn the steering wheel it actually goes round corners. The old un was that slow you had to start turning 20 yards before the corner. It has been stood in an outside lock up more or less since new, the tyres was pretty low so first stop was a garage for air and fuel. When I got home I went up to the toilet and looked out the window and there was about 3" of muck on the roof I will have to clean off later. Hope it don't leak when Iv'e moped it all off. Quiet a few jobs want doing on it before France so looks like the old un will be ramped up for quite some time before I can get to it again. .... Tom ....
