Not been on here for quite a while. How is everyone? well it is that time of the year when it goes a little quiet as we try and make the most of a rare few days of summer

Yes we all still here, though a bit quiet this time of year with everyone flying around the country in their vans! Also there's a current craze for motorhome groups on Facebook, but we have a FMUK group there too.

Thanks guys, We've been out a bit this year, Cornwall, North Wales and some local so I understand. I run a Karaoke show so I know that a lot of people go away this time of the year. Nice to see the forum still up and running. I have been on the "Other" one a couple of times a month but it's the same people all the time mostly arguing. I try not to get involved but somehow they seem to draw me in. Vans coming up for MOT in a couple of weeks so starting to think along the lines "What can be wrong with it" you know the sort of thing. Health not to bad now so will be around a bit longer. Hope to drop by again soon, you all take care for now.

Good luck with the MOT! Just had mine done. Cost about £350. A few bulbs, wiper blade, number plate light fitting, fixed air bag problem, new tyre, all the filters and a synthetic oil change.

The last three years has cost me only the test fee but this year I think I will be pulled up for parking brakes. I run the Citroen Relay and it has the brake shoes for the parking brake inside the disc brake hub. I tried last year, when they only just passed, to replace the shoes but despite being a mechanic I couldn't get the damn things apart without a slide hammer. I also fear a bit of rust in the sills so it looks like a visit to my friendly local garage. I hate MOTs, it's just like when the missus has a baby, and since I stopped smoking 3 years ago, I can't even have a fag now.

I always get my oil and filters changed at the same time. So my MOT's tend to be on the high side. Fully Synthetic oil is quite expensive. No doubt I could get it a bit cheaper if I bought it myself, they always make on parts and consumables. But overall my van is good value for money to run.

Yes Robmac, nice to look in and see that there are still many names on here that I know. Firefox, I have for the last couple of years got a good deal on filters and oil because I run a diesel car as well as the van. I service them myself at the same time and managed to get all filters for both vehicles, plus oil for less than £90. You must have a pretty new van to warrant fully synthetic oil, mine is an '04. I always use an MOT station that doesn't do any garage work, I find that they have no reason to "fail to get work" which as I know is a common practice among the garage trade. (I was in the trade for years). Like you I am very happy with my van (self build) which returns a good 32 - 35 mpg and drives like a car.
