Just been to Goring Gap and now since 16/4/16 new sign saying no overnighting from 10pm to 9am offenders prosecuted and vehicles removed We need to make a stand against this...there are no houses to upset or interruption of views.it seems just vindictiveness and jealously.we have been using the local sidestreets instead as these do not have any mentions in the bylaw.its only the main seafront road All others are free

Worryingly it seems the council are slapping the following letter on all campers/motorhomes stopping over for even one night along the entire lenth of Marine drive Ferring/Goring..stopped one night in the week and a guy put this on my windscreen at about 8.30 am. Afterwards I could only see the one sign (pictured below) and that was before the bend leading to the front.. (I came in from Worthing side and doesnt appear to be a sign) nor any signs along the whole lenth of drive where the motorhomes have always parked.

That's actually not too bad alStandard council notice. Gives 24 hours within which time most of us would be gone anyway. And they have to apply for the usual magistrates thing which would take ages. They hand them out at Stonehenge to the long term residents. Bit heavy handed to put them on anyone parked up for a night but more of a scare tactic than anything else.

Thought as much Vern...Just bothered me how theyd managed to clear the whole stretch of Marine drive using these tactics, and with just the one sign only visible from one direction Wondered why there were hardly any other vans there that night! Haha

The only thing I didn't like was "no return within 3 months." But I would hazard a guess it's almost impossible to enforce. They would have to take reg numbers, and the extent of "the land" or "overnight" are not sufficiently defined as to be legally enforceable. One can form one's own opinion on that though, don't anyone take my advice I'm sure ASOP/Andy Strangeway would have a field day pulling holes in it. Just looks like scare tactics, which are working OK for the council.

yeah the 3 months is a pain Vern, have a feeling theres a few residents that would be keen eyed for any repeat campers!!.. in fact wondered if the guy who put the letters on windsceeens was a resident...as it was before office hours.
Its one of those places where a couple of residents will toot every van as they go in early to work!!! haha

We were there last week met the councilor and questioned him about the planning application that has gone in for a 49 pitch campsite with toilet and shower block and a reception area the area is already fenced off and an entrance gate has been put in so that answers any confusion about the reason for the stopping if MH parking he pretended to know nothing about it when I asked did he want me to write the planning application number down for him so he could check it out he embarrassingly back peddled i then asked if he and the councilors were going into the camping business and said I thought someone was getting a nice little earner out of it.

Sounds like Scarborough all over again. Corrupt councillors with vested interests in campsites and hotels!

Well done Annie for giving him a grilling! !.. Thnk I know the land in question.if it was the couple of acre strip for sale a while back.with a height barrier to the left of it....would of liked it myself but it was way to expensive! Snapped a (not clear at all ) pic of the van windsceeen letter poster, as he went back to his car...it's only from the back, but you may recognise him if you or anyone else met council officials or even residents ..just in case they have a vested interest, will try to post soon

We gave him a grilling but he was major backpedaling yes that is the patch of land and by the councillors body language he knew all about it and was surprised that I knew about it I looked all along the road and could not see the application up anywhere I understood tbat it was supposed to be posted in the town halls and in the area where changes are applied for, though the guy was very nice about me staying and said they were after people who stayed longer than a couple of nights at the moment and a couple if the lads that I know and who live in their vans are running scared and move off every night now and the big American that has been there for 2 years has now gone.

Could be things sound a bit fishy Annie. Just checked...theres a Council meeting on This Tuesday 8th june. www2.westsussex.gov.uk/ds/clc/w/w080616age.pdf Says... 7.50pm:- Goring: Marine Drive Prohibition of Motor Caravans :-The Committee will make a decision regarding campervans parking along Marine Drive between Ferring and Goring." Wish i could go.. but looks like ive gotta work. I had assumed they had already made a decision?...why else the sign and notices on vans? Think this must be the land Annie says someone has put in planning for a campsite...took this pic in August shortly after farmer phils..when i noticed it for sale.. This is a pic of the guy who put the notice on my windscreen..(pic of notice ive previously posted) which appears to of banned me and no doubt others from the area for 3 months. He may well be a council official doing his job?

All looks very suspicious. As usual corrupt motives of money making, selling land, planning etc are at the forefont and the ordinary motorist gets trampled on to so their greedy schemes are more profitable.

Parking Restrictions for Motor Homes (TRO) At the WCLC meeting of the 9th June they considered the proposed TRO which was supported by the County Councillors for Goring and Ferring. The WCLC discussed the objections, support and the Council Officers response to the request noting that the main reason for the TRO being refused was “it is unlawful to camp on the highway in the UK”. The committee unanimously voted that the TRO should proceed. It will run from 10pm to 9am on the south side of Marine Drive and Marine Crescent, from Sea Place in Goring-By-Sea, to Sea Lane in Ferring. Notices will be placed on the wooden bollards. The proposals effect will be monitored using feedback from residents, Worthing Borough Council Civil Enforcement Officers and the WSCCs Highways team, who will continue to serve ”Notice” on any vehicles used for long term accommodation.
If displacement to the north side of Marine Parade occurs, it is expected to cease shortly after implementation, as campervan owners, become aware of the restriction. However, if it becomes an issue, residents can request further TROs. A TRO for the north side of Marine Drive was considered, but was not acceptable as a large number of sign posts would spoil a very attractive semi-rural location. It is expected that the TRO will be operational in 2 months
Proposed Caravan Site Marine Drive After a presentation of the application by the Case Officer Garry Peck objections to the caravan park were voiced by the Ilex Group, Worthing Preservation Society, The GRA and Councillor Mark Nolan. The council officers discussed the application with one pointing out that it did not have any leisure area and would cause campers to spill out on to the Greensward endangering children crossing Marine Drive. The vote to refuse the planning application was carried by councillors unanimously endorsing the Council Officers’ recommendation.
The Chairman, in voting against the planning application, pointed out that the development was out of character with the area, adding that Worthing had to build 600 homes per annum and there would always be pressure on open spaces for development
Noting the Chairman’s concluding point did you voice your views on The Local Worthing Plan?

Thanks for posting details of meeting Annie. . Will read in more detail whwn less tired. Tho I do think I smell bulls••t!. if they're suggesting they're only serving "notice" on vehicles used for long term accommodation! Over the last year when i go to visit my kids who live along the coast , I've maybe stopped there up to 8 or 10 nights for a whole year!..and then never more than 2 nights in succession ..that's hardly using it for long term accommodation!
