Hi everyone, really glad I found this forum thanks to a video I saw on youtube (By Firefox). I have searched for this question but I'm so bad when it comes to finding answers. I have recently purchased a Vauxhall Movano for my camper conversion, and I'm currently cleaning the inside. My question is, How clean does it need to be? Does it need to be spotless before I insulate i.e. do I need to clean in all the nooks and crannies, inside the framework etc.? I have cleaned the panels and outside the frames (Not to perfectly white, but as near as) but find it difficult getting in behind stuff.

Hi and welcome!
I don't think it needs to be that clean. I don't think I bothered cleaning mine at all before I insulated! What I did do was treat any rust spots as you can get interstitial condensation and this can lead to the van rusting from the inside out, cos when you use the van, obviously there is a lot of moisture and the this can leak behind the insulation, and the cold outside metal wall can cause condensation on the inside behind the insulation.
One way to avoid this would not to use celotext or rockwall, but instead an expanding foam filler which fills all the gaps. Cost is probably not justified though.

Hi Firefox, thanks for your reply! I definitely won't be using the foam filler, I'm worried about it leading to problems in the future, and if covered in that I won't be able to sort it out. After a lot of research I've decided on thermoliner & Dacron, there seems to be a lot of good reports about these.

Hi Guys, a can of cold Galve spray is always handy for those cavities that you cant get into, also don't rule out the form filler it works with moisture and not only is it a great messy filler ah ah but it is fantastic to glue panels that you cant screw or nail to the van side panels, I have also used it to glue wooden battens to the side metal panels it really is the business, Haydn
