I have just remembered an incident that happened on our arrival at Oak Farm. When I pulled up I noticed the little tow car had a flat tyre. I parked it in its space and by the time I had got the van backed into its slot, Charlie had got a concrete flag under it and jacked the car up. In the meantime Karen was on the computer looking for local garages and soon had one sorted with address, post code. plus phone number. I wrote this down and by the time I got to the car Charlie had the wheel off and into hippies van. Hippie than run me to the garage a couple of miles away and I took the wheel in to see if they would repair it. The guy took it away then came back with it 3 minutes later and said he had to put a new valve in to replace a faulty one. I said how much do I owe you. He said its free plus vat. I thanked him and was amazed he did it for free coz that don't happen these days or if it ever happened really. So wheel back in Hippies van and off back to Oak Farm. Soon as we pulled up Charlie whisked the wheel out and refitted it and let the car off its jack. All this was done after five pm because we had to rush before the garage closed. I bet it was all done in less time than a Louse Hamilton pit stop. I bet it all took less than three quarters of an hour from entering the site to all done and dusted. I just want to say a big thanks to the three musketeers Karen, Charlie, and Barry for their fast reaction and work rate, plus a thanks to the unknown garage man for an equally fast response and free service. .... Tom ....

That was lucky, Tom. I agree, campsite prices certainly have gone up a lot in the last couple of years, makes it difficult to find reasonably priced sites when meeting up with friends who camp in tents or caravans - and all the more reason to wild camp where I can to offset the site costs. In Dalbeattie we paid £13.50 (would have been another £3 for EHU) so only stayed 2 nights and moved on to a site beyond Stranraer for 3 nights where it was priced per person so, as solos, we only paid £9 each per night, and EHU was only £2 p.n. A lovely little site for tents and campervans only. The lady did a bit of a double take at the size of my van, but as I managed to get it through the gateway and onto the pitch she let me stay.
