Hi all, I need to be in London for a night or two in September and thought as I'm already down south I might combine it with a trip to France. So,I'm looking for somewhere to park the van and get transport in to London, where I'll be staying for the night. Any ideas?

Round the sports green opposite Cockfoster's Tube Station (Chalk Lane) there is free parking. You will need to get there outside commuting hours (7am to 7pm) to bag a space, but once there, you can overnight, stay a few days and get the tube into town (£7.50 for a travel card or something like that). Tube is 2 mins walk. Piccadilly line. streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=527914&y=196462&z=110&sv=527914Assuming your van is emissions compliant as this parking is inside M25. You are right, not a good idea to take a vehicle into London due to parking problems, congestion charge, and congestion itself.

Sounds like an option but I'd rather have somewhere further out that's easy to get to (you know what I'm like finding places) even if it means getting a train. I'll be staying in London for one night at a hotel.

Thanks Vernon, sounds brilliant apart fro £30 day return! For a 35 minute journey? Bloody hell, I knew The south was more expensive but that's shocked me!

Farnham Railway station is £6 for a weekend to park. Easy to get to (A31 from the M3)and £12 return to Clapham junction is all I know about fares.

Great spot for travelling into London which is a half hour train ride away. Also good for Thorpe Park and Chessington. Just inside the M25 but outside the LEZ and Congestion Charge Zone. Free at weekends - £5 08.00 to 18.00 Monday to Friday. Quiet, level car park next to a pub. Toilet available on the station platform. We only stopped for one night but there were cars parked up for the whole weekend.

Only problem is that if Carol is coming from the north, Farnham is an extra 60 miles and round the dreaded M25 western section too.
But coming from the west or SW on the M3/M4 Farnham would be good.

Hi Carol..I dont know if your van is LEZ compliant but if it is my brother has a pub in Lewisham right in London and im sure if i asked him you could use his parking space on the road outside his pub for a couple of nights, also parking down the street is free.

Carol your van is compliant which means its fine for entry into London's LEZ omittance areas. I have just checked it on the Low Emission Zone Compliance Checker. .... Tom ....
