Coming home an hour ago, a guy in red van was in front, we're both doing 30 mph ... young cat wih red collar appeared from nowhere straight under his front nearside wheel and was taken round and right underneath the wheel arch.
I braked and stopped, van carried on, he would have felt the impact but wouldn't have seen what he'd hit, but he'd looked in his rear mirror and pulled into left hand road junction further down to turn round and come back.
I could see cat was very, very badly injured, almost flattened, no way it could be saved unless God Almighty was the vet, but could see it was still alive (just!), so I made a lightening decision, took a deep breath, lined up right with my left hand wheels and ran over it as hard as I could to put it out of misery. All this happened within a few seconds...
Guy in van had come back up the hill the the other way by this time and we both stopped and I told him what I'd done and why.
Got home and blubbed my eyes out big time!
What a horrible bloody start to the week!!!
