Me again... Has anyone else noticed how I only seem to come here for advice!? Must make an effort to actually chat! Anyway heading to Bath next Friday for a theatre trip and day out sightseeing and wondered if anyone knew of a central place to stop? Suppose more importantly a flat location? Any help as always muchly appreciated! ? E

Sounds good. Will check them out. Not sure what time we're getting there, maybe 1700ish, theatre at 2000. Will be doing the tourist thing on Saturday and leaving late afternoon as doggies at home and can't leave them too long ? Dog flap allows 24 hours without a babysitter! ?

I used to leave my cats for a few days - up to 5 - with mountains of food and water to keep them going. There was always some dried food left when I got back. I know dogs are very different though.
Interesting to hear about dog flap!

It would be no good me putting a dog flap in, it would be easier to give him his own key to the door. .... Tom ....

You can get different sizes i think but mine is large enough for a person to squeeze through so I have an alarm on the house as well and as i live in a close the neighbours always watch for trouble anyway. I also have a baby gate across the flap for when i'm away with doggies during day and it locks into place or when i'm away for long periods i have a panel i slide across it and it locks in too... I have had all sorts of doggies big and small stay and none had any problems learning to use it. Biggest was a Newfoundland but my toy poodles can fly through it no trouble too so i think it would be ok for a cat too... Some people frown at me for leaving them for 24 hours but i know they're ok so i don't worry too much about what they say!

My collie pup 8 weeks old sussed the cat flap within 24 hours. The problem came at about 4 months old when she hasn't sussed that she couldn't fit through it any more. So I put in a small dog flap and even the big male collie could get through that. It was great for them when I was out at work all day although I did have to put 3 foot of trellis on top of the 4ft high stone wall around the garden and the postie was a bugger for not shutting the garden gate behind him.
My rescue staffy has separation anxiety and tail chases chewing and biting his tail when left so he has to be muzzled when left so I don't like to leave him more than a couple of hours with muzzle on, which can make life a bit difficult sometimes. He is gradually getting better but its going to be a long time, if ever, before he stops doing it as its become a compulsive habit now and very difficult to resolve.
I used to leave the cat home alone for a weekend and she was fine but obviously really missed us so she now comes with us in the van and she's quite at home in the van now, goes out freely and comes when called. She comes on dog walks with us too.
