Yes, it has been in my possession since about 1986, and on my front garden since 1992.
But today I finally parted with it!
They managed to winch the remains onto a flat bed and bonus ... I got £50 for it too. Photos to follow!

I got £50 for it too. Photos to follow! I didn't realise that ferrous oxide was worth that much. Still it will save them breaking it, it's amazing they got it on the trailer in one piece. I'm pleased you got something for it, does that mean the front garden is empty now?

From this car I got £50 scrap, £25 for the carb, plus the back axle, windscreen, badges, and various other bits and pieces all went to good homes.

Well done, that's a massive step forward. We've learned a lot about scrap dealers this autumn, haven't we? Keep the details of that company, sounds like a decent one.
When's the next skip coming?

We have learned a lot about scrap dealers and it's not all good I wish I had started off with this firm: www.charltonautoparts.co.uk/They are very professional, local, and I think would have offered £120-£150 for the red Cavalier and stuck to the price... next time Next skip when Charlie starts landscaping, although the guy in the photos who was hanging around with the green newspaper bag gave me a card for some local people who will remove loads of clean stuff like topsoil or wood for free, so I may give them a call

It sounds you're pleased with the outcome. After seeing the pictures my quote before is scarily near to what is in the pictures, it was meant as a joke. It will be great to see the garden after Mr X has worked his magic. Keep up the good work.

Yes, after I'd towed it to removal position, and someone had removed the windscreen, there wasn't much left of the engine bulkhead area integrity. Luckily it is rear wheel drive and the engine was solidly bolted to the cross member and also attached to the gear box which has separate mounts and has the gear lever going through the floor and I think those held it all together. It did move and shudder a bit though!

Yes they are valuable those Mk1 Sports Hatches.
It was a complete vehicle apart from rear axle (O/S Wing and Drivers door on back seat!)

There's still 1.3 tonnes of lovely scrap steel in there. At £300 a tonne, I think they did OK out of it! If you take to them I think you should get about £120 per tonne and they sell it for £300 to the mills after a bit of processing. By the time it ends up as fabricated steel section its is costing up to £2000 a tonne!
But it's surprising how little these auto salvage places give you. Most of them will pay nothing for one in that condition and moan about coming to take it away into the bargain.

True. I wished I had stripped the tons of Copper wiring out of my old unit before they demolished it last month. They had an American 110v supply in there. About 50 steel boxes all around the walls with thick cabling inside each.
I reckon the demolition squad must have thought it was Christmas.
