Saw the Fiamma 200 DJ on Emma's van at the weekend and was well impressed...till I looked up the price. Nearly 300 quid! Does any one know of a cheaper alternative that will fit onto a transit barn door? Willing to go up to about eighty quid.....oh alright then, a hundred!

Couldn't you adapt one of those strap on ones used on hatchback cars, may be either just by adjusting the straps or by drilling it and bolting it to the door.

I was advised not to strap my bike on to my ladder on back door because the weight could stress the hinges. But that was by a company who wanted nearly £500 to fit a towbar with a bike rack attachment to the towbar and a smaller rear step to one side of the tow bar. I have a brochure somewhere of the various bike rack options, will try to find it. You at Greywell and /or Stonehenge this weekend?

The thing about a ladder is you climb it when door is shut (hopefully!) so hinges don't come into play. Whereas you may open a door with a bike on (maybe?) so the hinges do come into play. But for most lightweight bikes it won't be an issue. Even then you could take the bike off if you open the door (which you would have to anyway for a towbar mounted rack to clear the door) ... so it doesn't seem to me to be a problem. Mount it on the door with less cost and hassle

Thanks for the replies. Lee & Linda I think the bog standard hatchbak ones have to be erected centrally so me bike would stick out too much....I'll look into it more though. n brown Me weld? Perhaps fix some profiles on the back door and build a thermalite wall off em...all very neatly rendered of course! @wvw Not going to Greywell Jess. Was there last weekend. Probably make me own bolt-on contraption if I can't get one off a scapped van somewhere.

We have a bike rack previously used on a Ford Escort. You're welcome to it if it might be of any use and can be collected if you pass through this area on your travels.

I've just sent you a pic via email.
We'll probably move house within the next 6 weeks but I could meet you somewhere not too far away on your return leg, if it's suitable.

Thanks Karen I've seen it ....Not sure if it's suitable but no harm in having a look if I'm passing. I'll let you know when I'm in your neck of the woods.

Funny, bike rack questions seem very popular on different forums! I'm looking for one that won't block my rear view and can be left on when opening back doors.....does one like this exist?
